About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. Position Overview We are seeking a Director of Program Management to spearhead our growing defense portfolio. In this role, you will manage one or more DoD programs (prime and subcontracts) and drive strategic initiatives that reinforce AST SpaceMobile’s reputation as an innovative defense contractor. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in space, RF, radar, communications, and/or TACSATCOM, coupled with the business acumen to build a PMO from the ground up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • A minimum of 10 years in program management, with experience building, scaling, or executing a PMO in defense-tech, new-space, DoD, or FFRDC organizations.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, ITAR, and government acquisition processes.
  • Experience drafting proposals, responding to RFIs, and conducting trade studies.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with government agencies, prime contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Must possess and maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail for documentation and deliverables.
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Position is based in Lanham, MD, with future relocation to Tysons, VA
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Security Clearance and eligibility for TS/SCI.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Oversee full program scope and ensure delivery excellence across all phases.
  • PMO Growth: Define and implement PMO functions to meet scope, schedule, and contractual requirements.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide expertise in space systems and RF to support technical execution and resolve challenges.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for government agencies (DARPA, SDA, NRO, AFRL) and industry partners.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgets, monitor cost performance, and deliver accurate financial forecasts.
  • Proposal & RFI Management: Lead proposal development and RFI responses, ensuring compliance and competitive positioning.
