About The Position

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is seeking a Director, Power Engineering Development to establish and lead its power generation engineering group. This hybrid role, based in Waltham MA, Boston MA, or Brooklyn NY, will focus on the early development phases and front-end engineering designs for power generation technologies, including gas, batteries, solar, and wind. The position is crucial for supporting NGV's large load business growth by developing technical solutions, building relationships with OEMs and suppliers, and enabling commercial teams to meet customer requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in energy project development with demonstrated leadership across multiple generating asset classes.
  • Strong track record taking generation projects through FEED.
  • Direct experience working with key OEMs and suppliers.
  • Deep knowledge in one or more generation technologies: combined-cycle and simple-cycle gas turbines, reciprocating engines, solar PV, onshore wind, and BESS.
  • Strong understanding of generation interconnection processes, co-location, and behind-the-meter, front-of-the-meter configurations of one or more regional markets.
  • Strong knowledge of the different contracting models, OEM equipment supply agreements, and major equipment lead times is essential.
  • Knowledge of technical grid services for ancillary markets, capacity constructs, energy, and resource adequacy frameworks.
  • Familiarity with federal and state siting and all relevant permits such as emissions, waste water management and cooling, fire protections and others is essential.
  • Proven leadership in complex infrastructure projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership presence with the ability to influence internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners.
  • Demonstrable technical credibility and presence, ideally coupled with good commercial acumen.
  • Strong partnership and team mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other power supply related degrees (i.e. nuclear, chemical, civil/environmental).
  • You must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of working on generation projects through construction, commissioning and/or operations, is highly desirable.
  • Experience working for AI, data center, large industrial load, semiconductor manufacturing or similar large energy consumption loads is desirable.
  • Experience working in Joint Ventures is desirable.
  • Knowledge of federal and state large load emerging policies is desirable.
  • Advanced technical degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications (PE, PMP) are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering technical solutions for the development and service offerings of behind-the-meter (BTM) and front-of-the-meter (FTM) generation assets, including conventional (natural gas, reciprocating engines, combined cycle), renewable (solar, wind), and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Leading the power generation engineering team to develop front-end designs and plans to enable customer solutions in-line with commercial expectations.
  • Working seamlessly across Asset Development disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Power Quality and Electronics, Transmission Planning, Resourcing, Siting, Permitting, Cost Estimating, Risk and Assurance.
  • Working seamlessly with NGV US Commercial teams to enable and support business plans, customer interfaces, growth targets and other emerging business requirements.
  • Working seamlessly with NGV US support functions such as Legal, Finance, Procurement, Corporate Affairs and Community Stakeholders.
  • Working seamlessly with NGV US existing operating generating plants to incorporate best-in-class operational performance.
  • Establishing Power Generation technical standards and modular engineering options to achieve best cost performance, procurements, value engineering, resource plans, delivery speed, and ensure proper assurances and plans are in place for a successful delivery.
  • Building/acquiring required capabilities within NGV US and appropriate resourcing baseline capacity to support the commercially developed pipeline for conventional natural gas, renewable, and hybrid (solar + storage, gas + BESS) generation opportunities aligned with NGV's large load commercial strategy.
  • Supporting project approvals with direct oversight through limited notice to proceed or other key defined milestones, with ongoing involvement as needed through FID, project execution and successful transition from construction to commissioning and operations.
  • Participating in customer conversations, as needed by Commercial teams, to support the sales and contracting process and build trusted advisor relationships with prospective and existing large load customers.
  • Supporting stage-gate governance, risk registers, and contingency planning across development milestones (e.g., site control, permitting, interconnection, FID, NTP).
  • Representing NGV US as the technical owner in stakeholder forums as needed.
