About The Position

The Director, Population Health Communications is an experienced communications professional who is passionate about shaping the communications experience across multiple audiences and leads all paid/earned/owned external communications for the newly created Population Health Center of Excellence. The Director strategizes and collaborates with stakeholders to develop communications plans and strategies, sees them through to completion and connects the dots with other projects and priorities. This individual works closely with internal and external communication teams, stakeholders, and partners to lead internal and external strategic communication campaigns; change management communication, and cultural engagement efforts; develop innovative ways to engage employees and inspire them to action; write clear and exceptional communications, business update presentations, narratives and talking points. In addition, this expert communicator provides strategic direction in elevating brand reputation, designing and implementing an organizational communication strategy, collaborating with a diverse, broad range of internal and external partners on related culture/engagement efforts, and serving as a connector and storyteller to raise awareness of the organization's collective purpose and vision to strengthen internal and external relationships.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (general business, public relations, marketing and/or communications disciplines are required)
  • A minimum of 10 years of previous communications or public relations experience with several years in the biopharmaceutical or related industry.
  • Extensive communications design experience and advanced presentation development skills.
  • High proficiency in Google Suite and Apple Products
  • Proven ability to develop and implement communication strategies in collaboration with a diverse team.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders, orchestrating high-visibility executive presentations, and developing brand identity.
  • Experience in engaging high-performance teams and developing innovative communication platforms.
  • Ability to design and implement innovative communication efforts that engage and inspire others at various levels in the organization.

  • Experience with driving core business and corporate-level strategies and objectives, activities and communications, and execution is preferred.
  • Previous corporate communications or communications agency experience and marketing experience is preferred.
  • Experience with collective leadership and stakeholder management, change communications and management, and the ability to approach work with adaptability and an enterprise mindset preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary external communications partner to the Vice President and Head of Population Health Center of Excellence (CoE), while helping to launch the new CoE and achieve Genentech’s 2030 goal of treating an additional 80,000 underserved patients.
  • Leads the creation of an integrated external communications/thought leadership and social media/digital storytelling plan in support of the new CoE, including all content development.
  • Leads key external engagement efforts and serves as a communications advisor to the VP and Head of the CoE to develop a clear and compelling story around the mission, vision and planned impact of Population Health at Genentech.
  • Spearheads all media relations efforts on behalf of the Population Health CoE.
  • Serves as key partner in bridging enterprise-wide partner functions
  • Directs and oversees work of external agencies and partners supporting strategic communication efforts, including but not limited to: media, creative logistics and production partners to ensure resulting deliverables and collaterals are of the highest standards.
  • Builds awareness and maintains presence at cross-functional forums, including but not limited to: national meetings, town halls, career fairs, roadshows, etc.
  • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.
  • Participates in business travel, by air or car, when required for regular internal and external business meetings.
