The Director, Policy Coordination and Engagement provides strategic leadership and oversight for department policy coordination. Reporting to the Executive Director, the position plays a key role in aligning policy priorities, stakeholder engagement, and executive decision-making to support the delivery of timely, high-quality advice to senior leadership and government. The Director is responsible for leading the coordination of complex, cross-ministry policy initiatives and overseeing engagement activities that inform policy development and implementation. The Director is required to synthesize policy, legislative, stakeholder, and operational information to provide strategic advice, recommendations, and solutions to senior leadership. The Director must be capable of managing multiple priorities concurrently while maintaining a strategic, ministry-wide perspective.

Requirements

  • University graduation in Public Administration (or a related field) plus 7 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent.
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Related diploma and minimum of 9 years related experience; related certificate and minimum of 10 years related experience; minimum of 11 years related experience.
  • Systems Thinking: Integrates broader context into planning; plans for how current situation is affected by broader trends.
  • Agility: Proactively incorporates change into processes.
  • Develop Networks: Makes working with a wide range of parties an imperative.
  • Drive for Results: Works to remove barriers to outcomes; forecasts and proactively addresses project challenges.

  • Graduate level degree in a related field
  • Project management experience including with methodologies, frameworks and processes including work breakdown structures, critical path methodologies, and project resource management

Responsibilities

  • Leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team responsible for policy coordination and stakeholder engagement.
  • Overseeing the coordination, integration, tracking, and reporting of ministry policy, legislative, and strategic priorities.
  • Providing strategic oversight of ministry-wide consultation and engagement activities, including planning, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Establishing engagement standards, tools, and best practices to support consistent and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensuring engagement approaches are aligned with policy and implementation objectives and integrated into decision-making processes.
  • Representing the branch or ministry in cross-government forums and senior-level discussions.
