About The Position

OPB is looking for a strategic, relationship-centered Director of Planned Giving to help shape the future of public media in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Requirements

  • Background or exposure to estate, tax, or financial disciplines (e.g., through a J.D., CPA, CFP, or related experience), coupled with the ability to understand how these areas influence philanthropic decisions and to partner with donors’ advisors; does not provide donors with legal or financial advice.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of OPB
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and compliance with OPB and AFP ethics policies and standards and operate in alignment with OPB’s policies, values and observable behaviors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a highly effective collaborator.
  • Organized, motivated, proactive and goal driven. Attention to accuracy and completeness of work.
  • Valid Oregon or Washington drivers license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in developing effective strategies to lead and grow planned giving programs, as well as managing and coaching planned giving staff.
  • Related skills to prospect analysis, marketing and engagement strategy.
  • Fluent use of project management software such as Aha! and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support and counsel the front-line fundraising team to integrate planned giving strategies into broader development and stewardship efforts.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on charitable estate and financial planning within OPB and KMHD and facilitate philanthropic plans with donors and their advisors on complex charitable giving, ensuring compliance with OPB policies and maintaining strict boundaries of not offering legal or tax advice.
  • Stay apprised of federal and state tax legislation that relates to OPB’s gift planning activities for use in conversations with donors and professional advisors.
  • Oversight of gift agreement templates and drafts in consultation with OPB’s Legal and Finance teams.
  • Steward and manage relationships with a prioritized pool of approximately 25 donors with principal-level complex gift agreements.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Senior Leadership Group, providing insights on performance, donor engagement, and emerging opportunities.
  • Facilitate complex/high-level planned gift inquiries from current and prospective donors, explore other support opportunities and steward relationships to optimize lifetime support.
  • Provide direction, support and evaluate work performance of two additional team members on the Planned Giving team, and collaborate to develop and facilitate professional growth plans.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with legal and financial professionals to promote awareness of OPB as a worthy candidate for planned gifts.
  • Engage and collaborate with other planned giving practitioners through professional groups and networking.
  • Serve as a resource for other planned giving professionals in non-profit work in order to elevate legacy giving awareness and donations across the board.
