Under the direction of the Senior Director, Pharmacy Services, this position leads and manages Ohio State Outpatient Pharmacy and Medication Access Services provided across the pharmacy enterprise. The pharmacy enterprise consists of the following: University Hospital, University Hospital East, James Cancer Hospital, Harding Hospital, Brain and Spine Hospital, and Dodd Davis Rehabilitation Hospital, OSU Physician Group and Federally Qualified Health Centers. The pharmacy enterprise employs over 400 FTEs, dispenses nearly 9M doses annually, and generates $1.2B in revenue based on a $260M drug budget. The pharmacy enterprise has a close affiliation with all of the health sciences colleges, most importantly the college of pharmacy where 15 pharmacy staff has faculty appointments. The pharmacy enterprise contributes to the academic and research mission of the university by training yearly almost 30 residents, publishing 42 peer-reviewed papers, and precepting nearly 10,000 pharmacy student hours of experiential education. This position is responsible for leading the implementation, optimization, and ongoing oversight of an enterprise-wide Outpatient pharmacy practice model aligned with strategic growth priorities and compliant with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy Practice Act (OAC 4729‑5). Key responsibilities include the standardized implementation of pharmacist activities under consult agreements; development and expansion of medication therapy management programs; and optimization of transitions of care across the continuum, including discharge prescription services, hospital‑based infusion centers, and emerging sites of care (e.g., injection clinics, home infusion) where outpatient pharmacy and medication access teams are engaged in operational or clinical workflows. The role drives performance by developing and monitoring quality, access, and cost metrics for direct patient care services; assessing pharmacist, technician, and medication access productivity; and building a scalable, sustainable outpatient pharmacy care team. A core focus is identifying and executing innovative strategies that accelerate outpatient pharmacy growth, close care gaps, enhance patient access, and deliver measurable financial and clinical outcomes. For the purposes of this position, direct patient care services include patient care rounding, order verification, collaborative drug therapy management under consult agreements, and the education of patients, healthcare professionals, and learners. This position can be further summarized as follows: Ensures the pharmacy practice model is continuously evaluated, optimized, and scaled using best available clinical evidence and contemporary performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to support sustainable growth; Strategically centralizes and consolidates patient care services to improve efficiency, expand access, and enhance financial performance across outpatient settings; Develops, implements, and monitors data driven strategies for measuring workforce productivity, service utilization, and workload to ensure operational and financial sustainability; Develops, implements, and evaluates innovative strategies to drive sustainable growth of Outpatient Pharmacy Services, expand sites of care, close care gaps, and generate positive financial impact; Ensures continued compliance with all national, state, and local regulations governing pharmacist involvement in direct patient care while enabling practice model expansion; Supports The Ohio State University’s research and education missions by advancing innovative pharmacy practice, experiential learning, and scholarly activity aligned with outpatient care growth.
