About The Position

This role provides oversight of all nursing and ancillary support personnel involved in Scheduling, Admitting, Operating Room, Recovery Room, Endoscopy, and SPD. The Director establishes policy and standards of nursing care and practice, coordinating with the Policy Committee. They work closely with the CNO to review and revise facility policies and procedures, and consult with the CNO or Medical Director regarding medical problems. Effective communication with the Scheduling Coordinator regarding approved procedures is essential, including reviewing and correcting operating schedules. The Director is responsible for interviewing candidates for various perioperative positions, making recommendations for hiring or termination, and collaborating with the Safety Officer to develop and monitor orientation policies for competent staff. They must substantiate all overtime hours to the CNO, provide professional development for staff, oversee employee rounding, and assist managers with vacation and time-off schedules. In collaboration with direct reports, the Director monitors licensure and certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS) of nursing personnel, performs annual evaluations, and monitors job performance for compliance. They ensure efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability and arrival times, and informing surgeons of delays. The Director also monitors sterilization procedures, assists managers with equipment maintenance and repair, ensures appropriate resource allocation for supplies and equipment, and monitors efficient ordering of supplies, forwarding capital equipment requests. They meet with manufacturer representatives regarding updates and new products in collaboration with the Materials Management Director. Additionally, the Director serves on the Quality Improvement Committee, reviews variance reports, completes investigative documentation, and ensures regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • The employee is frequently required to sit, converse, and listen; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes policy and standards of nursing care and practice and coordinate with the Policy Committee.
  • Works closely with the CNO to review and revise current facility policies and procedures.
  • Consults with the CNO or Medical Director regarding medical problems.
  • Communicates closely with the Scheduling Coordinator regarding approved procedures.
  • Checks the draft of each operating schedule in advance and make necessary corrections.
  • Interviews candidates for Operating Room, Recovery Room, and Endoscopy, and SPD positions.
  • Makes recommendations for hiring or termination of employment.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Officer to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.
  • Substantiate all overtime hours to the CNO.
  • Provides Professional Development of staff members and oversees employee rounding.
  • Assist manager with coordination of vacation and time off schedules.
  • Monitors licensure of professional nursing personnel and BLS, ACLS and PALS (as applicable) status.
  • Performs annual evaluations and monitors job performance of nursing staff to confirm compliance with policies and personal protection.
  • Affords efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability, on time arrival, and informing surgeons of any delays.
  • Monitors sterilization procedures for instruments and supplies and storage of same.
  • Assist managers with arranging maintenance and repair of medical equipment.
  • Ensures appropriate resource allocation with supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors efficient ordering of supplies and forwards purchase requests for capital equipment to Executive Suite.
  • Meets with manufacturer representatives regarding updates on equipment and new products in collaboration with the Materials Management Director.
  • Serves as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee to report complication data and infection control statistics.
  • Reviews of variance reports filed by staff members.
  • Completes investigative documentation as appropriate.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance are met and aligned with the governing bodies.
