About The Position

This role is critical in driving the successful delivery of a dynamic R&D portfolio by overseeing and managing productive and effective partnerships with Global Development’s external suppliers. These partnerships will cover a range of services, including clinical trial execution, lab services, home health, digital health and flexible staffing services (biometrics and trial management). The Director, Partnership Management will be a key member of the Partnerships department and serve as a key connector between internal stakeholders and their relevant external counterparts at the supplier/partner for 1 or more categories. The incumbent will champion their external partner and be a representative and spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson. The Director will report to the Senior Director, Partnership Management and will work closely with members of the Partnership Management team, Partnership accountability team, and key functional and business leaders to enable a new centralized partnerships oversight function. This position involves setting the strategic direction for partnership management, driving innovation, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory and company standards. This position is also accountable for a fit-for-purpose governance structure and oversight to the relationship and performance of the suppliers/partners in scope. They will optimize existing relationships and will construct, develop and proactively pursue the new relationship(s) to meet the portfolio needs in close partnership with the involved GD functions, Finance, R&D Procurement, R&D Quality, and other J&J Innovative Medicine stakeholders to meet the short-and long-term deliverables defined by the business, maximizing value of the alliance and ensuring delivery of the development portfolio.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in a business or scientific field
  • A minimum of 10 years of related industry experience is required.
  • Experience in managing external stakeholders/ strategic partnership and/or alliance management is required.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and influence decision-making across a matrix organization is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of direct vendor/supplier management experience is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership success.
  • Knowledge of supplier processes and contracting is preferred in either in a deliverables‐based model or functional‐service provider model.
  • Sound business and financial acumen is preferred.
  • People Leader Experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage and grow partnerships to effectively deliver business objectives, including management of budget and headcount, with a focus on quality and adherence to Health Authority and legal regulations.
  • Ensure governance structures are in place and contribute to global governance, driving consistency across the portfolio.
  • Oversee the execution of partnership strategies, address and resolve issues, ensuring suppliers meet contractual obligations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of business partner needs, identify opportunities and strategic focus areas in conjunction with business partners across J&J IM.
  • In partnership with procurement, finance, and business partners, establish and implement a supplier strategy in alignment with overall business needs.
  • Supports execution and anticipation of resource needs for a given set of capabilities across patterns/suppliers
  • Leads or participates in projects related to implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the One Delivery Model
  • Supports execution of geographic optimization strategy in collaboration with GD stakeholders and providers.
  • Assess and validate new partnerships, highlighting the innovation capabilities they bring.
  • Support the implementation of new suppliers.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within Partnerships and develop networks to foster growth.
  • Successfully embrace new ways of working
  • Develop and maintain partnership standards & playbooks and ensure adherence
  • Address and resolve issues, ensuring suppliers meet contractual obligations.
  • Lead and provide guidance to a team of Partnership Management and Enablement professionals.
  • Ensure alignment with goals, vision, and contractual obligations.
  • Ability to work with agile mindset in lean team with capacity to build strong relationships between internal stakeholders and external counterparts.
  • Develop functional expertise to anticipate future needs
  • Support the implementation of new suppliers and establish supplier strategies.
