About The Position

Mosaic is seeking a Director, Outdoor Recreation & Access to work out of our Nanaimo office on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This role will establish and lead Mosaic’s outdoor recreation and access program, shaping the strategy, partnerships, and program models that will define how Mosaic’s lands are accessed and experienced over the long term, while balancing operational, commercial, environmental, and community interests.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in forestry, business, outdoor recreation, tourism, natural resources, or related field;
  • Experience in land use and access management, outdoor recreation planning and/or commercial tourism development;
  • Understanding of working forest operations — harvesting, road systems, and safety — and how these shape land access decisions;
  • Familiarity with Mosaic's land base, operations, and stakeholder landscape;
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in program development, budgeting, and long-term sustainability planning;
  • Knowledge of risk management, public safety, liability, and regulatory processes for private land access in BC, with established government relationships;
  • Familiarity with Vancouver Island communities, land use dynamics, and outdoor recreation systems;
  • Experience working with First Nations on land use, access, and/or stewardship;
  • Ability to navigate complexity, influence decisions, and align diverse interests; and
  • Comfortable in complex, evolving environments; able to build on existing foundations while driving new direction.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing Mosaic’s outdoor recreation and access strategy, ensuring alignment with operational land use priorities while strengthening social licence;
  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating pilot initiatives to establish practical, scalable models for access, user management, and program delivery;
  • Identifying and developing commercial tourism opportunities, including partnerships with licensed operators, outfitters, and tourism businesses, to generate revenue and enhance the visitor experience;
  • Overseeing the management of access agreements, legal frameworks, and governance models that are consistent, transparent, and enforceable;
  • Building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with First Nations, all levels of government, and key stakeholders, while working cross-functionally across Mosaic to align operational, business, and community priorities;
  • Establishing and overseeing revenue streams, budgets, and financial performance to ensure long-term program sustainability; and
  • Representing Mosaic in community, government, and stakeholder settings with credibility and confidence.
