Director of Veterinary Services
About The Position
The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) is seeking an experienced veterinary operations leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Veterinary Services Department. Working alongside the Executive Director and our Shelter and Outreach Veterinarians you'll ensure our veterinary teams have the people, systems, and operational support they need to provide exceptional care to animals and the community. Requirements
- Demonstrated supervisory or management experience.
- Experience leading veterinary support staff or comparable teams within a veterinary practice, shelter, or animal welfare organization.
- Strong understanding of veterinary operations and workflow.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to HSCO's mission and values.
Nice To Haves
- Five or more years of veterinary operations or animal welfare experience.
- Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM).
- Experience in shelter medicine, nonprofit veterinary practice, high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN), or community medicine.
Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of HSCO's Veterinary Services Department, supporting both shelter medicine and community veterinary outreach.
- Recruit, supervise, coach, and develop veterinary support staff while fostering an engaged, collaborative team culture.
- Partner with the Executive Director and staff veterinarians to align staffing, workflows, resources, and operational priorities.
- Improve systems and processes that enhance efficiency, communication, employee engagement, and patient care.
- Oversee inventory management, purchasing, equipment maintenance, vendor relationships, and veterinary software systems.
- Monitor departmental performance, analyze operational metrics, and implement continuous improvements.
- Assist with budget development and ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA, DEA, and Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board standards.
- Serve as a member of HSCO's Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organizational planning and strategic initiatives.
- Build strong partnerships across departments to improve collaboration and organizational effectiveness.
