About The Position

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Director of Used Vehicle Operations to lead and optimize all aspects of our pre-owned vehicle business across a high-volume automotive dealership. This executive-level position is responsible for driving profitability, inventory strategy, acquisition efforts, merchandising, pricing, reconditioning efficiency, and sales performance while ensuring an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is a proven automotive leader with a deep understanding of used vehicle operations, market analytics, inventory management, and team development. This individual will play a critical role in maximizing department performance and achieving aggressive growth objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in used vehicle operations, automotive sales management, or dealership leadership.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale used vehicle inventories and delivering strong financial results.
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle valuation tools, inventory management systems, and automotive market analytics.
  • Strong understanding of acquisition channels, auction strategies, and digital retailing platforms.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the dealership's used vehicle strategy to drive sales volume, gross profit, inventory turn, and market share.
  • Oversee all aspects of used vehicle acquisition, including trades, auctions, direct purchases, service lane opportunities, and digital sourcing platforms.
  • Manage inventory levels, aging, pricing, and merchandising to maintain a competitive and profitable portfolio.
  • Analyze market trends, vehicle valuation data, and competitive activity to make informed inventory and pricing decisions.
  • Partner with sales, finance, service, and marketing teams to ensure operational alignment and maximize profitability.
  • Lead and develop managers and staff through coaching, performance management, and accountability processes.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including inventory turn, days' supply, gross profit, acquisition costs, reconditioning expenses, and sales effectiveness.
  • Drive operational excellence throughout the reconditioning process to reduce cycle times and improve vehicle readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with all dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Foster a culture of customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and high performance.
