About The Position

High Focus Centers, a premier provider of outpatient treatment programs for mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders, is seeking a Northern New Jersey Director of Therapeutic Education Services. This role is crucial for ensuring the continuity of academic instruction during treatment by integrating educational services into the therapeutic milieu, supervising instructional staff, ensuring compliance with state and special education requirements, and serving as the primary liaison with school districts. The Director will collaborate closely with clinical and operational leadership to support students’ academic progress, compliance, and successful transitions during and following treatment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Active state teaching certification required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience, preferably with adolescents.
  • Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of school-based systems, including IEPs and 504 Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate educational services within the PHPs across assigned sites to ensure alignment with individualized treatment plans and therapeutic goals.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate teachers providing academic instruction to adolescent students.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain instructional schedules, curriculum frameworks, and classroom models appropriate for a therapeutic setting.
  • Maintain active teacher certification and provide direct classroom instruction or instructional coverage as operationally necessary.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate schedules and support whole-student development and alignment with academic and treatment goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide educational insight to clinical and recommendations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with school districts, special education departments, and alternative education programs.
  • Coordinate educational records, attendance, coursework, credit recovery, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and Section 504 Plans.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, school re-entry meetings, and transition planning as required. Support student transitions back to traditional schools, alternative placements, or next levels of care.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development of educational staff.
  • Monitor and report on educational outcomes related to attendance, engagement, and successful transitions.
  • Ensure compliance with state education standards, special education regulations, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
