About The Position

Daemen University is seeking a collaborative and innovative Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL). The Director provides leadership for faculty development and initiatives that strengthen teaching and learning across the University. Working with faculty, academic leadership, Instructional Design, and other campus partners, the Director develops programming and resources related to pedagogy, course design, student engagement, instructional technology, artificial intelligence, and effective teaching across all instructional modalities. The Director also supports faculty consultations, course development and redesign, and other instructional needs.

Requirements

  • Relevant master's degree required; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of higher education teaching experience required; five or more years preferred.
  • Experience with multiple instructional modalities, including online, hybrid, HyFlex, or blended learning.
  • Experience designing and delivering faculty professional development or training.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and project-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in faculty development, teaching and learning, instructional design, or a comparable higher education role strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with nontraditional students and diverse student populations preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the University's faculty development strategy in alignment with institutional priorities and emerging needs in higher education.
  • Identify faculty development needs in collaboration with faculty, department chairs, academic deans, academic leadership, and campus partners.
  • Develop and coordinate an annual calendar of professional development opportunities for full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Lead Sharpening the Edge of Excellence (SEE), Daemen's initiative to advance evidence-informed teaching practices and student learning.
  • Plan and implement programs such as the Learning & Teaching Symposium, new faculty and adjunct orientations, workshops, teaching circles, mentoring initiatives, and scholarly presentations.
  • Promote evidence-informed, student-centered, accessible, and innovative teaching practices.
  • Support faculty engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Partner with Instructional Design to support effective course design and delivery across face-to-face, online, hybrid, and HyFlex modalities.
  • Consult with faculty on pedagogy, course design, student engagement, instructional tools, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
  • Develop and maintain faculty resources, training materials, guides, and communications.
  • Assess CETL programming using participation data, faculty feedback, institutional information, and relevant research.
  • Establish annual goals, manage the CETL budget and resources, and prepare reports on activities and outcomes.
  • Coordinate new faculty onboarding each semester.
  • Maintain a visible and accessible CETL presence and develop partnerships across the University.
  • Serve on University committees, special projects, and events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
