About The Position

The Director of Technology provides leadership and strategic planning for the development, implementation, and evaluation of technology and information systems to enhance and improve instruction and district services. This role involves managing budgets, personnel, and technology infrastructure in a high-growth area with limited resources, while ensuring alignment with district goals and state regulations.

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Three years of experience in supervision and management of an information systems and/or technology department

Responsibilities

  • Articulate the District’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Communicate and interpret district and/or campus goals, Board policies, administrative procedures and T.E.A. regulations to appropriate audiences.
  • Assist schools and administrative departments to develop and implement plans to address technology needs, including evaluation of hardware and software and management of information relating to all instructional support departments.
  • Devise, develop, implement, and maintain systems of internal controls, emergency and backup procedures, proper licensing, system upgrades, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Coordinate and supervise the use of outside consultants and/or the education service center, their scope of work and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Serve as Project Manager for technology implementation on all construction projects, including writing RFPs, negotiating contracts, and holding vendors accountable.
  • Direct and assign priorities to maintain the material on the district webpage and network.
  • Develop and implement district standards and specifications for hardware and software use.
  • Develop and implement a district wide computer networking plan.
  • Coordinate support of technology within the District, including audio/video systems, phone systems, and end-user support.
  • Manage, direct and assign priorities and personnel to projects to ensure attainment of district and department goals and objectives.
  • Ensure technology services are supportive of instructional goals and objectives, including district and campus improvement plans.
  • Develop and implement the strategy for the installation, maintenance and repair of all computer hardware and software throughout the District.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of staff development in the area of information management and technology; make presentations as needed.
  • Develop, implement and sustain the district technology/data disaster recovery plan.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of technology services and implement changes based on the findings.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local Board policy in the area of information management and technology.
  • Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents.
  • Participate in the research of and application for technology-related grants or revenue sources.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Administer the technology budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed appropriately and wisely.
  • Provide long-term cost reductions and process improvements through strategies to optimize the use of technology in the District.
  • Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Participate in contract negotiations for computer hardware, software, maintenance and related services.
  • Coordinate the purchase of all computer hardware, software and supplies; initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district, state and federal policies.
  • Approve and forward department invoices and purchase orders to Accounting department.
  • Recommend and coordinate the disposal and replacement of obsolete equipment when necessary.
  • Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations technology department.
  • Maintain a technology organizational plan that creates an environment that supports, encourages and measures professional development while controlling overall staffing costs.
  • Prepare, review and revise job descriptions in the Technology department.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Recruit, train and supervise personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention and dismissal.
  • Collaborate with staff to compile and report projections of personnel and facility needs.
  • Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of policy changes and innovations in information management and technology services.
  • Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
  • Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of technical services staff members.
