About The Position

The Director of Technology is responsible for the overall planning, organization, and execution of all District technology functions. This position oversees all technology aspects of the Technology Department, and also coordinates with all other departments and their technology projects. This includes the implementation of IT systems to support student learning, enhance staff productivity, and provide cost-effective service quality. This position maintains existing applications and researches new technology solutions for long-term planning of all systems used within the District.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or Associate’s degree with 5+ years of experience in IT leadership or 10+ years of verifiable experience in high-level network administration or technology management (e.g. senior network engineer or assistant director), demonstrating a clear trajectory of increasing responsibility
  • Valid State of Nebraska Drivers License
  • Proven expertise in network infrastructure (switchgear, Wi-Fi), VM environments, storage solutions, and enterprise hardware procurement
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development and the management of high-value vendor contracts
  • Twelve month work year
  • Daytime hours, Full-time (12-month)
  • Ability to convey complex technical and financial concepts clearly to the Board of Education and District leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the visionary for the District’s network backbone, including switching, routing, Wi-Fi, internet services, VM infrastructure, and storage arrays.
  • Oversee the selection, procurement, and replacement cycles for all technology hardware (laptops, tablets, interactive displays, peripherals, and IP phone systems) to ensure uniformity and performance.
  • Provide the foundational framework and server stability required for the Student Information System (SIS) and Business Systems.
  • Ensure technology and network tasks are prioritized and scheduled to minimize conflict with the instructional day and school calendar.
  • Serve as the project manager for all District-wide technology initiatives, responsible for the design, bid, and build phases of networking projects.
  • Develop and oversee the annual technology budget, ensuring expenditures align with District goals and maximize Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Oversee all aspects of the federal E-Rate program, including the strategic planning and filing of all required forms (e.g., Forms 470, 471, and 486).
  • Manage the competitive bidding process, respond to Program Integrity Assurance (PIA) reviews, and ensure compliance with documentation and CIPA requirements to secure and maintain maximum funding.
  • Manage District-wide technology contracts, including copy/print hardware and software licensing, to achieve economies of scale and service quality.
  • Maintain a multi-year hardware and software replacement plan to avoid "budget spikes" and ensure technology remains current.
  • Manage the technology architecture for building safety, including IP-based surveillance, electronic access control, and emergency communication systems.
  • Oversee all areas of network security, including hardware/software maintenance, upgrades, data privacy, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Partner with all District departments to provide the necessary hardware and infrastructure to support instructional technology and support services initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the SIS Manager to ensure a stable environment for data reporting and state/federal requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service, ensuring technology enhances staff productivity and minimizes disruption to the instructional day.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills when teaching adult and student learners or communicating with administrators, teachers, and stakeholders regarding technology initiatives.
  • Develop a technology team to initiate and implement programs consistent with District goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times by serving as a role model, exercising good judgment, and adhering to the policies of the District and the Nebraska Board of Education.
