About The Position

Redesign Health and Cedars-Sinai have launched a Digital Innovation Platform, a first-of-its-kind venture creation engine embedded inside one of the world’s premier academic medical centers. The platform pairs Redesign’s healthcare company-building methodology with Cedars-Sinai’s extensive clinical resources, including physicians, nurses, an expansive clinical network, and a de-identified data platform. Ideas originate from clinicians and researchers, and companies are validated in real clinical environments before market entry. Initial focus areas include personalized medicine, specialty care access, hospital workflow optimization, clinical decision support, and care coordination. As Director of Technology, you will be the technical engine of this partnership, working with the VP of Technology, AI Ventures and the New Ventures team. You will embed within Cedars-Sinai’s clinical ecosystem to identify problems suitable for company creation, assess technological feasibility, and support founders in transforming validated clinical theses into enduring companies. You will provide product and engineering expertise, while Cedars-Sinai offers clinical insights and a first customer base.

Requirements

Proven experience as a founder or early-founding-team technical leader who has built a product and company from the ground up, navigating the -1 to 0 journey.
5–8+ years of experience building technology, with significant time as a CTO, founding engineer, or senior technical leader at an early-stage company.
A technical or scientific foundation with a degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or a related field.
Demonstrated habit of staying at the frontier of AI through building or research.
Deep, current fluency in modern AI/LLMs to discern real technical advantages, make sound build-vs-buy decisions, and credibly guide founding teams.
Commercial and product judgment to identify valuable problems and quickly dismiss unpromising concepts.
Credibility to engage effectively with clinicians, executives, and entrepreneurs, earning trust within institutions and acting with urgency.
Experience mentoring or advising other founders (e.g., angel, accelerator mentor, advisor) is very helpful.

Responsibilities

Evaluate opportunities and technology with Cedars-Sinai, working directly with clinicians, researchers, and operational leaders to identify high-conviction problems and apply rigorous technical judgment to assess solvability with current technology, differentiate between genuine challenges and unbuilt solutions, and identify AI's durable advantages.
Develop and stress-test venture theses by translating clinical pain points and institutional needs into technically grounded concepts, focusing on workflow integration, stakeholder willingness to pay, and credible technological delivery. Resolve key questions through primary conversations and hands-on prototyping.
Lead technical diligence on concepts, tools, models, data, and vendors. Build prototypes and proofs-of-concept to de-risk technical assumptions before funding. Present concepts to Redesign’s Investment Committee with a clear assessment of technical risk and a defined path for Cedars-Sinai's involvement as a design partner and first customer.
Support founders by guiding early technical decisions in architecture, build-vs-buy, data strategy, AI/ML approach, and hiring. Facilitate access to Cedars-Sinai's provider network and data platform for piloting, implementation, and validation.
Scale technical judgment through AI by sublimating knowledge and evaluations into LLM-enabled systems and workflows to accelerate research and analysis, freeing up time for critical judgment and building.
Help build Los Angeles's healthcare-founder community by cultivating relationships with local universities and technical talent, positioning the Cedars-Sinai Digital Innovation Platform as a central hub for healthcare founders in the region.
