About The Position

Our engineering teams build and operate highly available, globally distributed systems that power one of the world's largest live audio platforms. We're looking for a technical leader who is excited about operating reliable infrastructure at scale while enabling engineers to move faster through automation, modern tooling, and operational excellence. TuneIn is looking for a Director of Tech Ops & IT to lead the teams and technologies responsible for our production infrastructure, cloud operations, site reliability, infrastructure automation, corporate IT, and internal technology services. We are looking for an experienced technology leader to own TuneIn's cloud platform, including infrastructure security, observability, operational excellence, maintenance, and cost optimization. This role also leads key aspects of our corporate IT function, including technology governance, incident response, and vendor management. You'll manage engineers supporting both cross-functional platform capabilities and embedded engineering teams aligned to key business initiatives. You'll lead a multidisciplinary team of seven direct reports across Infrastructure Automation, Tech Operations, Security, and Corporate IT. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building high-performing teams, driving operational maturity, improving engineering productivity, and balancing long-term strategy with hands-on technical leadership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, platform engineering, site reliability, or technical operations.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience operating large-scale production environments on AWS.
  • Deep expertise with Kubernetes, containerized infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or Pulumi), and modern CI/CD platforms.
  • Strong understanding of observability platforms including Datadog, Prometheus, Graphana or similar technologies.
  • Experience leading incident response, operational excellence programs, disaster recovery planning, and production reliability initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, IAM, cloud security, and distributed systems architecture.
  • Experience managing enterprise IT environments including identity management, endpoint management, SaaS ecosystems, and employee technology.
  • Proven ability to drive automation, improve engineering productivity, and reduce operational complexity.
  • Experience balancing reliability, performance, security, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on technical background with the credibility to guide architectural decisions while empowering engineers to execute.
  • Professional fluency in English is required for this role because the position leads and collaborates with technology teams and stakeholders across Canada and internationally. The role requires regular communication in English with technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as the ability to conduct complex technical discussions, review technical documentation, and communicate with internal and external partners in English.

  • Experience supporting high-scale consumer internet or streaming platforms.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Cloudflare, Route53, Snowflake, or similar technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Drive operational excellence across TuneIn's production systems, ensuring high availability, scalability, resiliency, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead reliability initiatives, including observability, monitoring, alerting, incident management, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and service level objectives (SLOs).
  • Partner with Engineering teams to improve deployment velocity, operational readiness, and production reliability.
  • Continuously improve CI/CD platforms, developer tooling, and self-service capabilities that enable engineering teams to build and ship faster.
  • Lead major production incidents, root cause analyses, and postmortems while driving long-term corrective actions.
  • Establish and continuously improve the team's on-call practices, participating in the rotation as needed.
  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and evolution of TuneIn's cloud infrastructure, platform services, and infrastructure automation.
  • Define AWS infrastructure strategy, governance, IAM, networking, Kubernetes platform, cloud architecture, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Champion Infrastructure as Code and automation-first practices across AWS and Kubernetes environments.
  • Oversee production networking, DNS, cloud identity, cloud security tooling, and platform services.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization, capacity planning, forecasting, and operational reporting.
  • Oversee infrastructure automation using technologies such as Terraform, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, and modern cloud-native tooling.
  • Ensure platform architecture evolves to support future business growth while maintaining reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Refine, implement, and monitor security policies related to network perimeter security, access controls, and infrastructure inventory.
  • Facilitate regular security reviews, penetration testing, security awareness initiatives, and bug bounty programs.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to implement and oversee data inventory, minimization, and retention policies.
  • Own and continuously improve TuneIn's incident response plan, serving as the incident response coordinator during security events.
  • Support information security policy reviews with partners, customers, and certification bodies.
  • Lead TuneIn's corporate IT function, including endpoint management, identity and access management, SaaS administration, helpdesk operations, asset lifecycle management, and employee onboarding/offboarding.
  • Oversee internal collaboration technologies, conferencing systems, office technology, and enterprise productivity platforms.
  • Manage vendor relationships, software licensing, renewals, procurement, and IT budget planning.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI-enabled productivity tools, that improve employee experience and operational effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvements to the employee technology experience across the organization.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Technical Operations organization.
  • Establish clear priorities, metrics, and operational processes across the team.
  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Security, Product, Finance, and People teams.
  • Influence technical direction across the organization through architecture reviews, operational best practices, and technical leadership.
  • Develop operational roadmaps aligned with company objectives and engineering priorities.
  • Communicate infrastructure health, operational metrics, security posture, and strategic initiatives to engineering leadership.
