About The Position

Discovery Land Company is seeking a collaborative and technically skilled Tax Director to join our growing finance and accounting organization. This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to a complex, multi-jurisdictional portfolio of real estate development, club operations, and joint venture structures. Reporting to the VP of Accounting & Tax, you will partner with local and global leaders to direct and manage the tax function across the enterprise. You will serve as the primary liaison between internal finance teams and external co-sourced service providers, ensuring compliance obligations are met while driving tax planning and operational efficiency across the portfolio.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ tax experience in real estate, construction, or development.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and strong technical knowledge of complex tax issues.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Detail, deadline, and goal-oriented with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience with multi-entity structures including C-Corporations, Partnerships, JVs, and disregarded entities preferred.
  • International tax experience relevant to cross-border operations and treaty positions preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Global & U.S. income tax compliance for C-Corporations, Partnerships, and Joint Ventures while working closely with cross-functional partners.
  • Oversee and manage consolidated tax accounting and reporting packages.
  • Manage tax and other income tax disclosures to complete filing of returns.
  • Research and implement new accounting pronouncements relevant to tax accounting.
  • Manage tax account reconciliation policies and procedures.
  • Act as the main liaison between the various finance groups within the organization and the external co-sourced service provider.
  • Work closely with business operations to ensure all necessary filing requirements are satisfied and to optimize tax planning on the front end of operational expansion.
  • Implement and monitor process continuous improvements and changes.
  • Assist VP with research, planning, and analysis for Global & U.S. operations.
  • Assist in providing technical support and analysis for tax planning on acquisitions, restructurings, and other strategic projects.
