About The Position

Flourish is solving the problem of serious mental illness in adolescents, as 1 in 25 adolescents are diagnosed with serious mental illness and most don’t get the care they need. The company is seeking a Director of Strategy & Finance to enhance its early-stage finance function. This role involves taking the existing finance operations and rapidly improving them while supporting daily decision-making. The Director will report directly to the CEO and collaborate with the leadership team to bring rigor to planning, spending, and growth strategies. The position requires the ability to translate messy data into clear insights and drive real decisions. A key aspect of the role is bringing operational and strategic excellence to billing operations, ensuring timely collections, strong payer operations, identifying revenue cycle improvements, and providing clear reporting to the C-suite.

Requirements

  • Has served in a finance or strategy leadership role at a startup or high-growth environment
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in finance, strategy, investment banking, private equity, and operating roles
  • Includes 2+ years of early-stage startup operating experience
  • Includes 4+ years of people management experience
  • Experience building financial models and operating financial systems from the ground up
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, especially with MSO/PC corporate structure
  • Experience with project management, cross-functional collaboration, and operations building
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and at a detailed execution level
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Create real visibility into burn, runway, and unit economics.
  • Own budgets, business financial models, and forecasts.
  • Work alongside a Fractional CFO to prepare monthly financials.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen accuracy, scalability, and automation of financial reporting.
  • Own accounting/controller responsibilities and oversight for the first 6-12 months.
  • Own and manage the tax process across the MSO/PC structure, working with external partners to ensure compliance and optimize efficiency.
  • Own billing and collections end-to-end, driving operational excellence and strategic improvement.
  • Effectively support and manage the billing associate.
  • Drive efforts to close the gap between net and gross revenue by owning billing analysis and providing cross-functional project management to solve this with clinical operations and clinical product colleagues.
  • Develop data-driven ways to identify patients at risk of not meeting billing engagement thresholds within the 30-day service window and re-engage them.
  • Develop data-driven ways to identify patients at risk of Medicaid churn and ensure care teams follow up.
