Director of Strategic Projects

Aurora Solar
$183,400 - $280,100Remote

About The Position

We're hiring a Director of Strategic Projects to join the Office of the CEO and partner directly with Aurora's CEO on the highest-leverage work facing the company. This is a force-multiplier role designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, capital allocation, and execution, helping translate business priorities into operational outcomes across the organization. You'll own several high-value recurring items, including the operating cadence for Aurora’s Board of Directors, while also dedicating significant time to strategically important ad hoc initiatives such as corporate development diligence and execution and driving critical cross-functional priorities across the company. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role that is a part of the leadership team with exposure to Aurora’s Board of Directors and investors. It's an ideal seat for someone who wants to operate at the executive level and drive critical outcomes across the company.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, including a strong foundation at a top-tier management consulting firm (MBB or equivalent) or investment bank, with experience with high-growth technology or SaaS companies.
  • You're a self-starter who thrives in ambiguous environments. You don't need a fully scoped brief to make progress; you create the structure, drive clarity and move initiatives forward.
  • You have experience directly supporting senior executives or Boards of Directors through board preparation, shaping strategy, and executing cross-functional initiatives end-to-end.
  • You have led or meaningfully contributed to corporate development initiatives, including M&A, partnerships, fundraising, or strategic investments with experience in financial modeling, diligence, and deal execution.
  • You communicate with exceptional clarity and can distill complex, ambiguous situations into concise, actionable materials – whether a one-pager, a board slide, or an All Hands talking-points that bring focus and alignment.
  • You are highly structured and execution-oriented, with the ability to drive complex initiatives from problem through completion. You can manage multiple priorities simultaneously while proactively identifying risks. You are a strong writer and storyteller with the ability to communicate in an executive voice across formats.
  • This role requires regular travel (~15%) to Aurora’s San Francisco Bay Area headquarters, customer and partner locations, and industry conference locations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in solar, clean energy, or climate tech

Responsibilities

  • Own Aurora’s Board of Directors operating rhythm, driving board and investor communications, meeting schedules and agendas for quarterly board and committee meetings. In partnership with the LT, build board decks end-to-end, draft CEO updates, and manage pre-reads and follow-ups.
  • Lead corporate development initiatives by sourcing, evaluating, and conducting diligence on M&A targets and strategic partnerships. Build investment cases, financial models, and recommendations, partnering closely with Finance, Legal, and the relevant functional owner to drive opportunities through to close and integration.
  • Shape company strategy by partnering with the CEO and LT on strategic narrative and direction.
  • Be a strong voice on internal communications by partnering with the CEO on All Hands content, executive messaging, and company-wide communications. Ensure that strategy, decisions, and changes are communicated clearly, consistently, and with the right cadence across the company.
  • Run point on the highest-priority CEO initiatives by translating priorities into structured work streams with clear owners, milestones, and accountability. Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and LT by bringing rigor, structure, and a clear point of view to the most important questions, helping to proactively identify risks and sequence decisions.
  • Represent the CEO when needed, stepping into internal and external discussions on the CEO's behalf, exercising strong judgment on when to make decisions, when to listen, and when to escalate.
