About The Position

San Francisco Post Acute is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Staff Development / Infection Prevention (DSD/IP) Nurse to join our team full-time. The DSD/IP Nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing facility orientation, staff education, competency training, in-service programs, and infection prevention activities in accordance with applicable regulations and facility policies. This position works closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) and Administrator to promote the highest standards of resident care, staff competency, safety, and regulatory compliance. The DSD/IP Nurse will also provide direct resident care as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in staff development, infection prevention, education, skilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement facility orientation programs for nursing staff and other employees.
  • Develop and provide job skills training, in-service education, competency programs, and required staff education.
  • Coordinate and oversee a Certification Training Program for nursing assistants, when applicable.
  • Organize, conduct, document, and evaluate required in-service education programs.
  • Assess staff education needs using information from Licensing and Certification surveys, employee evaluations, facility rounds, audits, and recommendations from the Administrator and department heads.
  • Prepare an annual in-service education schedule.
  • Prepare and post a monthly in-service calendar.
  • Maintain accurate records of all in-service education and staff training as required by applicable regulations.
  • Complete required Department of Health documentation related to staff education and training.
  • Conduct facility rounds and observe the delivery of resident care to identify training opportunities and quality-of-care concerns.
  • Coordinate and maintain the facility's infection prevention and control surveillance program.
  • Monitor infection prevention practices and promote compliance with facility policies and applicable regulations.
  • Plan, conduct, and document required fire, internal disaster, and external mass casualty drills.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Coordinate and participate in the recruiting and hiring process as assigned.
  • Assist with completion and processing of employment-related documentation.
  • Coordinate payroll and employee benefit programs as assigned.
  • Supervise staff and assist with appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the DON, Administrator, department heads, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Build positive and cooperative relationships with employees, residents, patients, and families.
  • Generate enthusiasm and encourage staff participation in education and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide direct resident/patient care as needed.
  • Maintain a professional, neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, resident, and patient information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing.
