Requirements

  • An Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a related area of study
  • Special Education Administrator license
  • A passing score on the Communications & Literacy MTEL
  • SEI Endorsement as defined by DESE

Responsibilities

  • Manage special education teachers, Team Chair, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and outside service professionals.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to special educators on planning, instruction, support sessions, compliance, co-teaching, and materials.
  • Facilitate evaluation meetings for Support Services staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership and department chairs to ensure students with disabilities are successful and accommodations are implemented.
  • Support the implementation of testing accommodations and modifications for students with IEP/504 plans.
  • Develop and implement behavior plans for students in inclusion or general education settings.
  • Coordinate and lead professional development for special and general educators on inclusionary practices and modifications.
  • Develop a post-secondary transition program for students 18 years and older.
  • Participate in the hiring process for special education staff.
  • Manage the online paperwork compliance system and act as a resource for staff.
  • Oversee the provision of services for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure student schedules include appropriate placement and related services.
  • Develop partial inclusion curriculum, including scope and sequence, lesson plans, and grading structures.
  • Manage the scheduling of IEP/504 meetings and ensure compliance with due dates.
  • Process all evaluation, IEP, and 504 paperwork in accordance with compliance timelines.
  • Manage the pre-referral and referral process for students.
  • Coordinate evaluations for special education services and communicate deadlines.
  • Write or collaborate on IEPs and 504 plans, acting as LEA representative.
  • Manage Age of Majority paperwork for students starting at age 17.
  • Chair Team and Manifest Determination meetings.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure state testing accommodations are met for students with disabilities.
  • Develop a clear parent communication system to ensure family participation in meetings.
  • Facilitate annual feedback from families regarding the special education program.
  • Communicate frequently with students, families, and school leaders about academic and behavioral progress.
  • Answer questions and act as a resource for families regarding the Special Education process.
  • Attend occasional after-school events.
  • Partner with team members, students, and families to actively uproot racism and inequality.
  • Model empathy and embody the mindset that “kids do well if they can”.
  • Uphold school and grade level systems and structures with fidelity.
  • Assume extracurricular responsibilities, if desired.
  • Actively engage in one’s learning and seek/act on feedback.
  • Actively pursue professional development.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and school leaders to advance the school’s mission.
