About The Position
Shine on as a Director of Special Education In special education and alternative education settings nationwide, the team members of Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI) shine a positive light on students who need academic, emotional, social, and behavioral support and uncover the unique learner within. Have a profound impact, grow, learn, and thrive as part of our team. The Director of SPED will work closely with the Director and resource team to coordinate and evaluate the educational program. The Instructional Specialist will act as a mentor and resource to the classroom staff and work closely with all departments on implanting the educational programs. In conjunction with the school Director, this position will be a key player in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and overseeing the onboarding of new staff.
Requirements
- Level 2 Special Education Certificate in PA required.
- Experience working with staff in a coaching capacity
- Strong professional communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to record and analyze data utilizing excel and google drive
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with similar population in a school setting preferred
Responsibilities
- Work closely with classroom staff to coordinate, manage, assess needs and determine student assignment in regards to special education programs
- Assist Principal with recruiting, interviewing and on-boarding new campus staff members
- Develop and implement transition planning and services/Indicator 13
- Maintain IEP database and student file scan database
- Prepare and attend students’ IEP meetings, assure documentation is accurately completed prior to the meeting and provide on-going monitoring to ensure ISBE compliance of students’ IEPs
- Plan and implement staff and parent education relating to special education programs
- Maintains close working relationship with school district, parents and community
- Provide and monitor crisis intervention at the school
- Organize, plan and deliver training for professional development and staff meetings
- Actively participate in Education Committee meetings and relay information to the resource team
