Software Engineering Manager
About The Position
Ford Credit is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead their Platform Integration function. This role is crucial for several modernization initiatives, including the establishment of an Industrial Loan Bank, a Core Lending Modernization program, and the implementation of a centralized Fleet Management Billing and Payments solution. The position is responsible for defining integration patterns, standards, and operational discipline to ensure reliable integration across numerous engineering teams through well-governed APIs, an event-driven architecture, and shared integration templates. The leader will own the organization's Orchestration platform, encompassing GraphQL implementation, Service API strategy, and Event Registry. They will collaborate with 10-25 teams, supporting their adoption of these patterns and evaluating their designs against a maturity model through a weekly Production Readiness and Review Council, which they will also lead. Success in this inherently cross-team role is measured by the consistency, reliability, and throughput enabled across the engineering organization, driven by the health, scalability, and governance of the Orchestration platform. The candidate will possess a deep understanding of GraphQL, the Apollo platform, Platform Thinking, Domain-Driven Design, Product Mindset, and Cloud-Native Distributed Systems, combined with SRE experience in deployment, monitoring, telemetry, observability, and recovery. This role will partner with product engineering, infrastructure and SRE, and developer experience and AI teams to ensure consistent, safe, and rapid integration, while providing guidance and coaching on building services and platform capabilities through high-quality engineering and operational practices. The position reports to the Ford Credit VP of Platform Engineering and will support 25-40 team members in North America and India.
