About The Position

Providence Living is a newly created non-profit Catholic-sponsored health care organization focused on long-term care, assisted living, housing, and other community services to support seniors and their family members. We are committed to re-imagining the experience of seniors, especially those living with dementia, and to creating communities and fostering a culture where seniors are empowered to make decisions that affect their quality of life. Within the context of a person-centred model of care and, in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and strategic directions of Providence Living, a Catholic-sponsored, faith-based, health care organization focused on long-term care, assisted living, housing and other community services to support seniors, their family members, and caregivers, Director of Site Operations, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil environment for our seniors, their families, visitors, and for staff. Reporting to Operations Director, the Director of Site Operations is responsible for overseeing nonclinical operations at The Views. Specifically, providing leadership to resident activities, adult day programs, support services and allied health staff. The position will support operational planning; human resource development; financial management; quality improvement and resource utilization. It will also ensure departmental policies and procedures comply with professional and legal standards. Working collaboratively with the Director of Care, provides leadership in managing and implementing strategic goals and service initiatives. The Director of Site Operations will also represent the Operations Director and the department in internal/external forums as required.

Requirements

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in health care or other relevant health professional fields, plus seven (7) to ten (10) years' recent, related experience in a complex health/seniors care environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Registration with the applicable college or association for health care profession.
  • Demonstrates knowledge/familiarity/experience with related resources such as Collective Agreements, personnel management, Leave Management, and Inventory Systems.
  • Demonstrates suitability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment and maintain appropriate client/worker boundaries.
  • Demonstrates research and analysis skills to investigate and resolve issues and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, set, and accomplish objectives and goals in a complex, fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to the non-clinical operation of services at Central City Lodge and Cooper Place.
  • Supports the execution of Seniors Care strategic initiatives and the development and monitoring of related performance indicators. Manages projects, produces reports & briefing notes, presentations and summaries as required or requested by the Operations Director.
  • Provides leadership and support to team members, reviewing workload assignments and adjusting resources according to workload. Determines required training and orientation.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop the operating and capital budget for the areas of responsibility, monitor productivity indicators, budget variances and analysis. Approves timekeeping records, authorizes overtime and compiles periodic operational reports.
  • Recruits new team members through methods such as identifying vacancies, interviewing candidates, making hiring decisions, and processing required documentation.
  • Participates as a member of the leadership team by performing related duties such as formulating employer demands for collective bargaining, participating in the managerial 24-hour call structure and facilitating and initiating service delivery change proposals.
  • Determines performance expectations in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, provides performance coaching and evaluation for all direct reports, including annual performance reviews, investigates work and staff issues and where necessary initiates disciplinary action. Identifies and collaborates in the development of human resources strategies to ensure recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Acts as a representative for Seniors Care on behalf of the Operations Director at various forums, meetings, and conferences at the regional, provincial and national level to address Central City Lodge's and Cooper Place's interests and participates in decisions that support service delivery.
  • Appraises the Operations Director of issues that will have an impact on existing or planned operations in the program.
  • Acts as a leader in change management by planning, implementing, communicating, and supporting change within Seniors Care based on strategic and operational evaluation, maintaining a resident focused approach, and anticipates and responds to shifts in services.
  • Promotes and presents a positive image of Providence Living with all stakeholders.
  • Ensures the Views at all times is operated in full compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, 2004, Licensing Regulation.
  • Develops and manages a preventative maintenance program for all buildings and equipment of the home.
  • Maintains, in cooperation with all departments, a Disaster Plan and Emergency Evacuation Program for the building. Directs practice drills and performs scheduled tests of fire alarm and emergency generator.
  • Responsible for developing and directing educational programs for staff regarding WHMIS, Disaster Plan, Fire Safety.
  • Manages all activities related to contractors, inspectors, and officials to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Works with the Operations Director to develop major and minor capital project specifications, scope and design. Provides capital cost estimates and feasibility information. As directed by the Operations Director may tender, award, and hire contractors for capital projects and ensures projects are completed in a timely manner, with minimum disruption, and within budget.
