About The Position

We are hiring a Director of Security who plans, develops and administers the security and loss prevention programs which provide for the management of asset protection, resident and employee protection, access/key control, emergency preparedness, hazardous communications, parking and traffic control for the community in accordance with established standards, procedures and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business management preferred.
  • Four years of experience preferable in a healthcare, residential building or similar community in a law enforcement/security setting with demonstrated managerial skills.
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience.
  • Thorough working knowledge of security and investigation procedures and protocol.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ability to understand and read technical manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to manage anger, fear and hostility in a calm and disarming manner.
  • Ability to act with patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with residents and contractors under demanding and difficult conditions.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of issues related to aging.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains the security personnel and outside contractors to assure the personnel are capable of meeting the community’s standards of maintaining a safe Environment.
  • Schedules Security Department shift assignments and Reception Desk breaks for security personnel and outside contractors to assure adequate coverage within the assigned budget.
  • Plans, develops and administers a comprehensive security system for protection of the community; investigating various infractions of rules, regulations and policies of the community.
  • Inspects the exterior and interior of the community on a daily basis in order to determine security needs. Reports irregularities and hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Reviews and updates security measures and procedures due to new or revised policies, procedures and regulations. Assess security weaknesses and makes recommendations as to how to improve security for the community.
  • Documents, interviews and assists residents and employees regarding criminal acts and/or complaints about security related issues. Assists in the preparation of reports and insurance claims for damages to the community’s property.
  • Assists in the fire and safety program of the community, compliance with all Federal, State and local codes and titles. Assists in the inspection of the community’s alarms systems and is a liaison with the San Francisco Fire and Police Departments.
  • Schedules and coordinates the service elevators for the moving in and out of resident apartments with the General Manager of Support Services and Maintenance Manager.
  • Solicits, evaluates, and selects bids, directs and inspects work of contracted security personnel under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Supervises personnel, service contracts and various security projects. Acts as a working supervisor, performing security tasks as needed.
  • Reviews the recording of routine security related activities through the use of log books.
  • Evaluates and maintains equipment and materials to assure continued safe and efficient operation.
  • Assists in developing, costing, and adherence to security operating budget.
  • Administers the community’s key system, fob system and employee locker assignments.
  • Administers the operation of the parking program by assigning parking spaces to residents and employees in accordance with the community’s procedure and coordination of guest parking.
  • Interviews, hires, supervises, trains, motivates, and performance management of security personnel and /or contractors.
  • Recognizes and reports concerns regarding residents' physical, mental and/or emotional status to the supervisor.
  • Carries cell phone, participates in Manager on Duty rotation and works on-call as necessary.
  • Performs related work as required.
