About The Position

Under general supervision, this role provides leadership in supporting, promoting, and assessing progress toward a high-quality and challenging educational experience for each student. It systematizes a process for continuous improvement with instructional programs and practices in middle and high schools, assists in ensuring the district Mission, Vision, and System Commitments are achieved, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations regarding instruction.

Requirements

  • 5+ Years of experience in teaching and/or supervision
  • At least three years of administrative experience at the school, district or state level (AP, principal, coordinator, director)
  • Master’s Degree
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries for complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination to test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Aiken County Public Schools.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates, and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Works closely with the Chief Instructional Officer and others in the Instructional Services Division to ensure smooth development, design, piloting, and roll-out of academic programs and initiatives.
  • Aligns district- and state-required plans to create coherence and a shared vision for data-informed instructional programs.
  • Works closely with the Assessment and Accountability Department to analyze grades 6 - 12 academic growth and achievement, makes recommendations for improvement, and provides support and guidance for the evaluation of instructional programs in collaboration with middle and high school supervisors (Assistant Superintendents) and principals.
  • Supervises the development, periodic revision, and implementation of the district’s curriculum for schools, assuring alignment with the state academic standards and instructional framework and ensures horizontal and vertical coherence across the disciplines and grade levels.
  • Serves as the district textbook coordinator.
  • Collaborates with the Elementary Teaching and Learning Director to facilitate the annual development of the course catalog, consistent with the expectations outlined in state/federal statute and regulations and the requirements provided by the SC State Department of Education.
  • Supervises the work of assigned Instructional Services personnel to support the success of teachers, instructional coaches, principals, and schools in providing high-quality appropriate content using strong instructional approaches and meeting the needs of students, including assistance with completing all performance evaluations and recommending appropriate employment actions.
  • Coordinates and monitors instructional enrichment and intervention platforms and programs.
  • Oversees the implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 academic interventions.
  • In collaboration with the Instructional Services team, reviews current research in instructional pedagogies in the core subject areas and recommends adoption of results-based instruction models.
  • Reviews instructional services division plans for providing appropriate professional learning to teachers and school administrators on curricular and instructional topics aligned to district priorities.
  • Researches and identifies trends, strategies, materials, and technology that will contribute to the successful implementation of the district’s instructional programs.
  • Reviews district policies pertaining to teaching and learning and provides suggestions and draft revisions to district leadership.
  • Interprets and implements the policies, regulations, and directives of the district and the State Department of Education; monitors compliance with local board policies, state/federal regulations, and regional accreditation standards.
  • Prioritizes budget requests, expenditures, and related financial activities to ensure alignment with instructional priorities and compliance with fiscal guidelines.
  • Provides oversight and accountability for state and federal grant programs, including Title 1, Title II, Title III, Title IV, and school improvement designations.
  • Coordinates with the Human Resources Division and schools to develop assessments aligned with Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) and implement effective processes for improving instructional practices.
  • Supports schools with developing transition processes and practices to effectively support students as they move from middle to high school.
  • Provides content for the district website and assists in promoting other district programs.
  • Represents the district at various local, state, and national professional meetings as requested.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional materials, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
