About The Position

At L7 Informatics, Inc., our mission is to revolutionize scientific processes and data management to accelerate precision health across life sciences, healthcare, and nutrition value chains. Our end-to-end solutions and services enable researchers to make new genomics discoveries, precision therapeutics manufacturers to create higher fidelity therapies, health systems to provide superior diagnostics and standard of care, and precision agriculture to meet tomorrow's needs. The L7 culture is driven by four core values: Collaboration, Innovation, Excel, and Growth. Our teams are full of grit, spunk and driven by our mission to make a positive impact on a very important industry that can improve healthcare for people around the world. Our teams' favorite benefits of working at L7 are the fully remote, virtual work environment and FTO (flexible time off), which both allow our crew all the freedom and flexibility they need to have the lifestyle that works best for them. Due to our continued growth, we are hiring a Director of Scientific Data Architecture. Scientific procedures vary drastically across precision science domains. In this role, you will lead the creation of the foundational master data models and process data models that allow our platform to natively adapt to these highly divergent scientific workflows, with an immediate, primary focus on the Pharmaceutical industry. You will bridge the gap between complex pharmaceutical manufacturing realities and scalable software by establishing standardized, reusable data structures compliant with industry frameworks like ISA-88 and ISA-95. Furthermore, you will be directly responsible for establishing L7's scientific content strategy and L7|SYNAPSE Agentic AI usage within the customer base. By leading a specialized, cross-functional team of scientists and data developers, you will design the ontologies and foundational AI data architectures that allow L7’s platform to scale effortlessly across different clients.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in scientific data architecture, laboratory or manufacturing informatics (LIMS, MES, ELN), or solutions consulting in the life sciences industry, including executive-facing advisory work.
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end Pharmaceutical processes, with proven experience implementing and mapping data architectures to ISA-88 and ISA-95.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory data standards such as the Allotrope Framework (ASM/AFO), and of the data integrity and regulatory frameworks that govern them (GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11/EU Annex 11, ALCOA+, ICH Q12/Q14).
  • Hands-on experience applying LLMs or agentic AI to scientific data modeling, ontology development, or content generation, and familiarity with established scientific ontologies (e.g., Allotrope Foundation Ontology, OBO Foundry ontologies such as OBI and ChEBI, QUDT).
  • A track record of designing scalable, reusable data models, workflows, or content libraries that shorten software implementation timelines.
  • Proven experience building and managing teams that combine scientific domain experts and software developers.
  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or Computer Science with a strong scientific focus), or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • You have built standardized MES, LIMS, or ELN solutions that significantly reduced custom deployment timelines.
  • You understand the landscape from L4 enterprise systems (ERP, QMS) through L3 (LIMS, MES, scheduling) and L2 automation, including how data flows between them.
  • You know standards beyond pharma that span L7's verticals, such as SiLA 2 or OPC UA LADS (lab automation), ISO IDMP (product data), LOINC/HL7 FHIR (diagnostics), and GS1 (food and agriculture). Participation in consortia like Allotrope, Pistoia Alliance, or BioPhorum is a plus.
  • You have delivered strong results with focused resources in a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the foundational data models: Design master and process data models across precision science verticals, starting with Pharma. They must handle distinct scientific procedures and R&D-to-manufacturing tech transfer, aligned with ISA-88 (including general and site recipes), ISA-95, and FAIR principles.
  • Own scientific content strategy: Define how scientific content is designed, standardized, and reused, and oversee a library of modular content that shortens customer implementations.
  • Build the foundation for L7|SYNAPSE: Ensure our data models, ontologies, and content are structured so SYNAPSE can reliably automate configuration, data mapping, and workflow standardization for customers.
  • Advise strategic accounts: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders at key customers, aligning our models with their operations and scientific goals, and represent L7's architecture as a thought leader in the market.
  • Turn field reality into product: Work with product management, engineering, and delivery leadership to translate recurring field requirements into standard platform capabilities.
  • Build and lead the team: Hire, manage, and grow a team of scientists and data developers, setting clear direction and a culture of learning and high performance.
  • Uphold quality: Support L7's quality management system (QMS) by following the Quality Policy and SOPs and meeting L7's QMS objectives.

Benefits

  • fully remote, virtual work environment
  • FTO (flexible time off)
