About The Position

The Director of Sales & Purchasing (MEP) in Sparks, NV will lead sales and purchasing strategy within the MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) sector. This role requires 15-20% travel to regional offices. The position involves owning and managing P&L performance, driving sales and business development, building strategic supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and overseeing procurement operations. The Director will manage a team of purchasing professionals, establish KPIs, and partner with business leaders to align strategies with company goals. Responsibilities also include monitoring market conditions, leading problem-solving efforts for supply chain disruptions, reviewing subcontract requests, and preparing financial performance reports for leadership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in construction, with strong exposure to the MEP space
  • Proven experience managing P&L and driving forecasting accuracy
  • Background in sales leadership, business development, or regional/territory management
  • Strong negotiation and contract management experience
  • Experience leading teams and developing high-performing organizations
  • Deep understanding of supply chain management and supplier strategy
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Experience working with project-based environments and job site products/services
  • Familiarity with progress billing frameworks (e.g., construction billing documentation)
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think beyond standard processes and solve complex problems

Responsibilities

  • Lead sales and purchasing strategy within the MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) sector
  • Own and manage P&L performance, including forecasting and financial planning
  • Drive sales performance, business development, and regional growth initiatives
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships across a complex supply chain
  • Negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements
  • Oversee procurement operations including purchasing, subcontracting, and vendor management
  • Manage and develop a team of purchasing professionals (buyers, supervisors)
  • Establish and track KPIs to ensure operational efficiency and performance
  • Partner with business leaders to align purchasing and sales strategies with company goals
  • Monitor market conditions, material demand, and pricing to optimize cost positions
  • Lead problem-solving efforts across projects, including supply chain disruptions and vendor issues
  • Review non-union subcontract requests, including risk, bonding, and contract terms
  • Prepare reporting on financial impact, risks, and performance metrics for leadership
