About The Position

This key position is part of the Western Timberlands Lead Team contributing to the overall strategic direction and results of the Western Timberlands Business (WTL), reporting to the Business Vice President. This position leads the Western Timberlands Marketing Team and has responsibility for the overall direction of the WTL log sales and marketing function, including strategy and execution. The position is based in Vancouver, WA and will require approx. 40%25 travel domestically (primarily Oregon and Washington) and internationally (primarily Asian markets). The Director of Sales & Marketing leads and develops an organization of approx. 40 salaried and 100 hourly log yard employees. The team works to solve external and internal customers problems, both domestic and international, by collaborating and partnering with the Timberlands Operations and cross organizational Wood Products Teams to ensure execution of a consistent supply of our timber to the right market, at the correct time and specification, at the optimal system margin. They also work to drive our brand evolution and marketing strategy while fostering relationships with key stakeholders. This team is responsible for log sales, raw material management and export operations across the Western system which includes ~2.5 million acres of timberlands, 4 internal sawmills, and one 3rd party and 2 internal export facilities in Oregon and Washington. Requirements

  • BS in Marketing, Forestry or related field
  • Minimum 10 years in related job experience
  • Ability to manage large projects and initiatives
  • Excellent communication and customer relational skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strategic minded with excellent negotiation skills
  • Proactive with the ability to multi-task
  • Proven track record of accomplishments driving financial performance improvement and maximizing returns across marketing and operations within the timber or manufacturing industry or a similar commodity business
  • Proven ability to inspire and motivate high levels of individual and team performance as well as the ability to lead diverse groups through tough issues and deal with conflict
  • Proven experience/accomplishments which demonstrate ability to optimize assets
  • Proven capability to build solid external relations and effectively handle external issues
  • Ability to lead with a world view and work effectively across diverse cultures

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate degree in Marketing, Forestry or related field
  • Purchase and sales, manufacturing or operations experience in the forest products industry

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team, through demonstration of the highest standards of integrity and values, that consistently demonstrates Weyerhaeuser’s Core Values and Key Behaviors.
  • Passionately champion our vision, mission and business roadmaps to enhance safety, environmental stewardship, business ethics, operational excellence, inclusion, innovation, customer value and people development.
  • Set the strategic marketing vision for the Western Timberlands business including sales and marketing plans, product direction, industry initiatives and messaging.
  • Collaborate, understand and partner with the Western Wood Products leadership as well as the Director of Harvesting/Transportation and Region Managers to ensure effective execution of our supply chain to maximize the Western system’s cash contribution.
  • Be a key force and collaborator to work with the Core Leadership Team (Functional Directors and Region Managers) to evolve our marketing strategy and execution initiatives.
  • Provide guidance related to product allocation decisions, ensuring system alignment to meet the needs of Weyerhaeuser’s key strategic customers, internally, externally and abroad.
  • Drive understanding and alignment throughout the Western Timberlands supply chain to ensure our internal stakeholders deliver on what our customers want and are willing to pay for.
  • Communicate market updates and forecasts with key internal stakeholders, including Finance, Investor Relations, and Senior Management team members.

Benefits

  • Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $191,888 - $291,772 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 35%25 of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

  • Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our contribution equal to 5%25 of your eligible pay.
  • Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
