About The Position

Residence Inn Berkeley is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Director of Sales & Marketing to lead all commercial efforts for the hotel. This Executive Committee leader is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive sales and marketing strategies that maximize revenue across all market segments while strengthening the hotel's presence within the Berkeley, East Bay, and greater San Francisco markets. The Director of Sales & Marketing will oversee all sales disciplines including corporate negotiated accounts, extended stay, university business, government, healthcare, group, and local partnerships while working closely with Revenue Management and Operations to achieve financial goals and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This role requires a highly collaborative leader with Marriott systems knowledge, strong business development skills, and a proven record of exceeding revenue goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive hotel sales leadership experience
  • Minimum 2 years as a Director of Sales or Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Strong knowledge of extended stay hotel sales strategies
  • Proven success exceeding revenue goals
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong financial acumen and forecasting ability

  • Marriott brand experience preferred
  • Experience with Marriott systems including CI/TY, MGS, Marriott Digital Services, and Salesforce preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual sales and marketing plans aligned with hotel revenue objectives.
  • Drive RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, and market share growth.
  • Identify emerging business opportunities and market trends.
  • Partner with Revenue Management to optimize pricing, inventory, and segmentation strategies.
  • Analyze STAR reports, demand forecasts, pace reports, and competitive intelligence.
  • Lead all proactive and reactive sales efforts.
  • Maintain a strong personal sales presence with key corporate accounts and local organizations.
  • Generate new business through prospecting, networking, and community engagement.
  • Manage account production and market penetration strategies.
  • Build relationships with Marriott Global Sales Organization (GSO), CVBs, universities, and major employers.
  • Execute hotel marketing initiatives consistent with Marriott brand standards.
  • Partner with digital marketing teams to maximize online visibility and direct bookings.
  • Oversee promotional campaigns, public relations efforts, and local partnerships.
  • Maintain an active presence within the Berkeley business community.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop the Sales team.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and collaboration.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and sales strategy meetings.
  • Ensure achievement of individual and team sales goals.
  • Prepare annual sales budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor production, pace, and profitability.
  • Manage departmental expenses within budget.
  • Deliver accurate revenue forecasts and business updates to hotel leadership.
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure seamless execution of group and extended-stay business.
  • Partner with Finance on forecasting and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Management on demand strategies.
  • Support Marriott brand initiatives and commercial programs.
