About The Position

This role is responsible for analyzing workers' compensation trends, developing strategic plans to improve workplace safety, and managing all aspects of claims, including liaising with adjusters, physicians, and attorneys. The position also involves managing the 'Return to Work' program, overseeing insurance renewals, providing actuarial projections, and managing liability, property, and auto claims. Additionally, the role ensures ADA compliance, assesses and improves safety tactics through store visits and training, develops new safety equipment and processes, and maintains safety training materials and plans. The Director will conduct safety audits, provide coaching to management and crew members, lead workshops, stay current on EHS legislation, oversee accident investigations, and report on trends and improvements to company leadership. The role also includes managing the COVID-19 prevention program and monitoring store chemical data.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze workers' compensation trends and identify interventions to improve workplace safety.
  • Develop a 24-month strategic plan to improve outcomes, working closely with the VP of HR.
  • Manage all claims, build relationships with injured workers, remind them of appointments, and troubleshoot medical care issues.
  • Act as a liaison between adjusters, treating physicians, nurse case managers, and attorneys.
  • Negotiate settlement agreements with claimants.
  • Manage the 'Return to Work' program, ensuring understanding of work tasks that can be performed without aggravating injuries.
  • Manage insurance renewals with the broker.
  • Provide actuary projections on a quarterly basis.
  • Manage claims arising from liability (guests), property, and auto claims with carriers and in-house.
  • Manage ADA compliance and lawsuits.
  • Assess current safety tactics and training by conducting Safety Observations at store locations.
  • Develop new equipment, tools, and/or processes to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Establish, maintain, and implement safety training materials, required postings, and the Injury Illness Prevention Plan.
  • Conduct regular inspections (Safety Audits) of company stores to assess compliance with safety policies and practices.
  • Provide coaching to management and crew members during visits to improve commitment to workspace safety.
  • Conduct centralized workshops and webinars for store management to improve safety awareness and reduce injury frequency.
  • Remain current on all environmental, health & safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Ensure company policies and training materials are up-to-date and relevant.
  • Oversee the investigation of all workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure lessons are learned from accidents and that management is held accountable for safe workplace practices.
  • Provide company leadership with reports identifying trends and improvements.
  • Complete regular status reports reflecting project status, safety audits, accident investigations, etc.
  • Manage COVID-19 prevention program, employee screening, and positive cases, implementing local and state regulations.
  • Report and monitor store chemical data on CERS.
