About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility with over 30 years of experience in behavioral health services for adults and adolescents, including programs for active duty military. Located in Petersburg, Virginia, the hospital offers a serene, nature-like setting. The new opening for a Director of Risk Management, under the direction of the CEO, involves providing oversight and technical support in quality improvement and regulatory issues across all clinical and non-clinical areas. This role has broad responsibility to protect the hospital’s assets from loss, coordinating loss control efforts, and advising management on potential sources of loss to minimize exposure. The Risk Management Program must comply with guidelines and standards of The Joint Commission, other regulatory agencies, and the UHS T.E.R.M. © Program. The position also supports strategic planning, program development, and leadership in integrating medical, clinical, and organizational quality improvement throughout Poplar Springs Hospital, ensuring congruence with corporate Strategic Plan/TERM Program and facilitating its implementation at the facility level. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a clinical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Certifications in HWC
  • Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory criteria and quality improvement measures and methods
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in risk management, quality improvement, or accreditation
  • Competence in computer use, information management technology, and statistical database
  • Detail oriented ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Ability to function in a multilevel systems environment
  • Excellent skills in organization, communication, and conflict resolution
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role with responsibility for performance improvement and risk management
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies (The Joint Commission, CPS, Licensing, Human Rights, etc.)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills
  • Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Virginia RN license
  • Master’s degree in healthcare or social services field

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight and technical support to all clinical and non-clinical areas in quality improvement and regulatory issues

  • Assures congruence between quality improvement initiatives at all levels and corporate Strategic Plan/TERM Program
  • Facilitates and monitors the implementation of the TERM program at the facility level
  • Performs other duties as assigned
