About The Position

The Director of Revenue Accounting is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing revenue recognition, revenue optimization, and related accounts receivable (AR) matters, ensuring compliance with GAAP and healthcare industry standards. This role is a key cross-functional leader, serving as the subject matter expert (SME) on revenue and AR-related financial matters. This individual will be responsible for modeling and projecting net patient revenue and facility-driven revenues, partnering with Revenue Cycle, Operations, Commercial, Legal, and FP&A to ensure contract terms align with expected revenue and financial goals. The Director will also provide strategic guidance on contract structuring, ensuring that agreements are operationally feasible, financially sound, and support revenue recognition accuracy. Additionally, this role will oversee key aspects of AR management, ensuring that billing, collections, and cash flow forecasting align with revenue expectations while supporting the Treasury department in optimizing cash flow visibility and management, as well as driving process automation and continuous improvement. This position can be performed from anywhere within the United States. Candidates must have reliable internet access and be able to work effectively in a virtual environment. Work site attendance may be required from time to time in accordance with business conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, revenue management, or financial analysis, with a strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycles.
  • 4+ years of leadership experience managing revenue teams, ideally with exposure to contract structuring and revenue modeling.
  • Expertise in revenue modeling, data analytics, and financial automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of net patient revenue, facility-driven revenues, and healthcare financial operations.
  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Operational, and Commercial teams on contract structuring and financial compliance.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Strong financial modeling, cash flow forecasting, and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to translate complex revenue and AR data into actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Experience in contract review and structuring for revenue and cash flow optimization.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office.
  • Ability to work with very large amounts of data.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the SME on revenue recognition, net patient revenue, and facility-driven revenues, guiding financial strategy and decision-making.
  • Work closely with Operations, Commercial, and Legal teams to ensure contract structures align with accounting and revenue goals.
  • Drive revenue forecasting and analytics, providing visibility into trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop revenue-related KPIs and dashboards to improve real-time decision-making.
  • Support pricing strategy and revenue optimization efforts, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
  • Oversee the accuracy and compliance of all revenue recognition processes in accordance with GAAP and healthcare industry standards.
  • Ensure contract terms support accurate revenue recognition and align with operational and financial expectations.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle and FP&A to enhance revenue forecasting models based on contractual terms and patient volume assumptions.
  • Lead internal and external audit processes related to revenue, ensuring transparency and control adherence.
  • Provide financial oversight of billing and collections, ensuring alignment with revenue goals.
  • Support AR strategies to reduce aging, improve DSO (Days Sales Outstanding), and enhance collections performance.
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle team to improve processes that impact revenue realization and cash flow.
  • Collaborate with Treasury on automation and reporting improvements to provide better insight into cash flow trends.
  • Enhance revenue-related financial reporting to provide better insights for executive leadership.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies in revenue recognition, AR, and financial close processes.
  • Support system automation initiatives to improve data integrity and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Develop and refine internal controls to ensure best-in-class financial governance.
  • Manage direct reports to meet NorthStar’s needs and objectives.
  • Support annual financial statement and statutory audits and ensure timely completion.
