Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care (Yee Hong) is a recognized leader in senior care, dedicated to providing exceptional, culturally inclusive services that enhance the well-being of older adults. In addition, Yee Hong offers four campuses of managed care, a hospice residence, and a wide range of community-based senior and caregiver support services. Through this comprehensive network, the organization serves more than 15,000 individuals annually across the Greater Toronto Area. In consultation with the Executive Director, plans and develops a high quality nursing care service that complies with relevant government legislations, policies and standards, and reflects the organization's vision, strategic direction and resident centred approach.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience, including 1 year experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Long Term Care Nursing, and at least 3 years of experience as an RN in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting, preferably in long term care
- Current CPR Certificate
- Strong leadership abilities.
- Ability to be flexible and agile and be a change leader in a highly demanding environment
- Ability to build, manage and coach an effective, engaged, and high functioning team
- Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Strong presentation skills
- Superb customer service skills
- Computer literacy required
- Experience with preparing and monitoring financial budgets.

Responsibilities
- Plans and develops high quality nursing and therapy services, and has overall supervision of nursing and restorative care activities
- Develops and implements an effective internal budgeting, expenditure and inventory control system for the department. Ensures efficient and responsible use of resources
- Ensures adequate staffing to meet the needs of the Nursing Department; Hires appropriate staff to complement the team, and coaches, develops, monitors and evaluates staff to ensure an agile, effective, efficient and engaged team
- Oversees orientation and in-service training programs for the professional and non-professional nursing staff, and performs other staff development functions as required
- Receives and reviews all applications for admission of residents into the LTC home and supervises transfers and discharges of residents
- Promotes a caring environment which is conducive to the provision and practice of therapeutically effective nursing care
- Follows up on resident concerns and advocates on resident's behalf for the promotion of optimal health and independence
- Develops and implements effective risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection control, occupational health and safety, incidents and falls, etc.
- Ensures up-to-date information on residents profile and statistics, and provides timely report to the Executive Director and liaise with the Ministry of Health on relevant issues
- Works with and regularly communicates with attending physicians, pharmacists, laboratories, agencies and hospitals and related disciplines to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of services to residents
- Provides leadership and acts as Chair to the Professional Advisory Committee, Registered Nursing Staff Meeting and Nursing Departmental Meeting
- Ensures coordination of resident care with different services, including food services, activation, social work, environmental and rehabilitation services
- Participates in interagency coalition meetings and activities as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director
- Ensures the appropriate supply and control of all pharmaceutical supplies
- Develops, updates, communicates and implements policies and procedures relating to nursing and resident care and health and safety issue
- Assists the Executive Director in the general administration of the LTC Home
- Keeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field
- Other duties as assigned
