About The Position

The Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) leads and manages the rehabilitation department to meet resident care needs while aligning department operations with the company’s financial goals and regulatory requirements. The DOR provides strategic oversight of staff, clients, and referral sources and promotes excellence in patient care, employee engagement, customer service, and financial performance. The role upholds professional standards and builds positive relationships with facility staff and clients. The DOR oversees staff scheduling, development, recruitment, and performance; departmental policies and documentation; communication and collaboration with facility administration and other departments; participation in interdisciplinary meetings; departmental budgets and goals; and timely MDS reporting and billing documentation. The DOR also supports professional growth and may provide or oversee screenings, evaluations, treatments, and related documentation in accordance with applicable state and federal guidelines. A valid state license must be maintained where applicable, along with compliance with the relevant state practice act and confidentiality requirements.

Requirements

A degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution; alternatively, Rehab Technicians must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Two years of experience as a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist, or Rehab Tech.
A current, active license in Physical Therapy, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or Speech-Language Pathology if serving as a therapist.

Responsibilities

Assign patient scheduling and delegate departmental responsibilities to staff as needed.
Supervise, train, evaluate, and support team members, in collaboration with the Regional Director of Operations and Human Resources.
Participate in recruitment and interviews for departmental staff.
Ensure compliance with Reliant Rehabilitation and facility-specific policies and procedures.
Oversee documentation for accuracy, clarity, payer compliance, and a comprehensive reflection of patient status and outcomes.
Promote collaboration and effective communication across departments.
Communicate departmental goals, initiatives, risks, and achievements to facility administration.
Represent Reliant Rehabilitation’s therapy services to the public and medical community.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, including utilization review, quality assurance, resident care conferences, admissions, department head meetings, and community education planning.
Monitor and manage departmental revenue and expenses to meet budget targets.
Establish and implement departmental goals and strategies.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of MDS reporting and billing documentation.
Foster professional growth through collaboration, self-study, and continuing education.
Maintain a valid state license as applicable and stay informed about industry trends and regulatory changes.
Provide or oversee therapy services as needed, including resident screenings, evaluations, treatments, and documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with the state practice act in the state or states where licensed.
