About The Position

The Director, Regulatory is a pivotal role responsible for defining and executing Zebra’s global regulatory strategy. This leader will own the compliance lifecycle for our entire portfolio of hardware and software products, ensuring seamless market access across the globe. As the company’s spokesperson on regulatory matters, this is a highly visible role that requires building strategic partnership across the business and evolving the regulatory function into a competitive advantage. This role will be tasked with modernizing our processes, leading a large global team, and ensuring the long-term continuity of our regulatory expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field required.
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Experience in global regulatory affairs
  • Exceptional business acumen and the ability to translate complex regulatory challenges into business strategy
  • Regulatory certification experiences
  • Governance, cadence, and executive level reporting with regulatory technology industry experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or MBA degree preferred
  • Regulatory experience within the technology industry, with significant exposure to both hardware and software products
  • Experience driving efficiencies through AI and work history in automation and digital transformation
  • Demonstrated success leading large, globally distributed teams and managing multi-million-dollar budgets
  • World-class verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence and build consensus
  • A track record of successfully leading organizational change, driving process improvements, and modernizing a technical function
  • A robust and active network of contacts within regulatory bodies, testing laboratories, and industry expert circles across key global markets
  • Deep and extensive knowledge of global regulations, compliance standards, and certification processes (e.g., FCC, CE, Radio/Telecom, Safety, Environmental).
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills.

  • Solid critical thinking and questioning skills.
  • Self-motivated, results driven, manages risks, and thrives in an environment of uncertainty and continuous innovation.
  • Able to drive definition and creation of solutions from skeleton use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking global regulatory strategy that anticipates industry trends, mitigates enterprise risk, and provides a competitive advantage for Zebra’s product portfolio
  • Cultivate and inspire a high performing, global team of regulatory professionals. Foster a culture of ownership, strategic partnership, and continuous improvement. Develop the organizational structure and individual career paths to build a deep bench of subject matter experts and future leaders. Champion strategic knowledge management and succession planning to secure the long-term continuity of Zebra’s regulatory expertise
  • Represent and advocate for Zebra’s interests before key global regulatory agencies, standard bodies, and industry commissions. Effectively communicate regulatory matters, providing clear, strategic guidance to key stakeholders, including senior and executive leadership to guide critical business decisions and long-range planning
  • Champion the modernization of the regulatory function. Implement data-driven processes and tools (including AI and automation) to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and provide actionable insights to the business
  • Assume full responsibility for the department's large-scale budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and identifying opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining the highest standards of compliance
  • Establish and lead a cross-functional "Regulatory Council" to ensure rapid and effective communication of regulatory changes throughout Zebra's business units
  • Establish and manage a framework of key metrics to measure the performance and business impact of the global regulatory functions. Provide data-driven insights to leadership that demonstrate operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and the team’s direct contribution to Zebra’s strategic goal
