About The Position

Black River Health is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Quality and Risk Management to champion our organization’s quality, safety, and compliance efforts. In this key leadership role, you will shape and drive our Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, oversee risk management initiatives, and guide staff education across the organization—all with the goal of elevating overall performance and patient care. You’ll collaborate closely with providers, staff, and leadership to plan, develop, and direct departmental activities that support our mission. This position plays a central role in coordinating quality, patient safety, and regulatory programs, ensuring a consistent, team‑driven approach to excellence and compliance throughout Black River Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in healthcare administration, nursing, or equivalent clinical field, and a minimum of 5 years of direct hospital-based quality leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent computer skills in a variety of software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, desktop publishing programs, and basic operations of learning management systems and accompanying reports.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Personable and professional
  • Employee must have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, proof of insurability, and a reliable means of transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in performance improvement, quality, or comparable healthcare programs (CPHQ, CMQ, CPHRM), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and takes appropriate timely action(s) to resolve customer concerns, complaints, and problems using the customer service recovery process.
  • Assists the organization to build capacity and achieve greater effectiveness by improving efficiencies and productivity in the workplace using developmental and quality improvement strategies, assessing education needs, developing programs, patient safety and satisfaction, and risk management activities to address those needs; charting a course of direction including developing and implementing detailed plans on how to improve quality and organization methods.
  • Maintains the organization in a “constant readiness mode” for accreditation by keeping current and coordinating/implementing changes to ensure the organization meets all accreditation, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Communicates effectively with organizational development and quality staff to keep them informed of department and organizational activities and ensures staff has adequate resources available to perform their job successfully.
  • Develops and trains quality, risk, patient safety, regulatory orientation, and educational in-services for employees and physicians.
  • Collaborates with Medical Staff Coordinator to establish criteria and monitor quality data for focused and ongoing professional practice evaluations for the medical staff.
  • Acts as the chair/facilitator of patient safety and regulatory-related committees, service teams, and/or short-term work teams.
