Director of Purchasing and Warehouse Operations

Plumbing Solutions LLCLexington, SC
Onsite

About The Position

Plumbing Solutions is a residential new construction plumbing contractor operating a hub-and-spoke model across four branches. Material is purchased and staged through a central hub and flows to job phases in each market. Material cost is one of the largest line items in the business, and material readiness directly drives field schedule performance. The Director of Purchasing and Warehouse Operations owns procurement and the hub warehouse end to end. This role is accountable for buying right, holding material cost inside target, keeping hub inventory accurate, and staging material so the field is never waiting. Success is measured in cost discipline, inventory accuracy, and on-time material flow, not activity.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years in purchasing, materials management, or warehouse operations leadership
  • Proven vendor negotiation and purchase order control
  • Inventory control experience with demonstrated accuracy results
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP or inventory management systems
  • Experience leading a team and enforcing performance standards

Nice To Haves

  • Background in plumbing, residential new construction, building products, or related trades
  • Experience managing material flow across multiple sites or branches
  • Familiarity with high-volume material staging to field or installation schedules

Responsibilities

  • Direct all purchasing of plumbing material, fixtures, hardware, tools, and indirect spend across branches
  • Negotiate pricing, rebates, and terms; hold vendors to agreed pricing and service standards
  • Enforce purchase order discipline and approval controls; eliminate off-process and uncontrolled buying
  • Enforce spec versus custom material rules so the right material is bought for the right job
  • Evaluate, onboard, and manage vendors; maintain backup supply to prevent single-source risk
  • Own hub warehouse operations, layout, and material handling standards
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and disciplined receiving and issuing
  • Reduce stockouts, excess, and obsolete material; control shrinkage and waste
  • Set and enforce standards for staging, kitting, and material readiness by phase
  • Stage material ahead of phase schedule so the field is supplied before it starts, not chasing material
  • Coordinate with scheduling and branch operations to align material flow to the production calendar
  • Run a reliable replenishment process across all four branches from the central hub
  • Hold material cost inside the company target as a percentage of revenue
  • Identify and execute cost reduction without sacrificing quality or schedule
  • Control material-driven back charges and waste; track and report variance
  • Lead and develop purchasing associates and warehouse staff
  • Set clear performance standards and hold the team accountable to them
  • Build process and documentation so the function does not depend on any single person
