About The Position

The Director of Project Management is a senior operational leader responsible for overseeing all project management activities across the Northern Virginia business unit. This role ensures that projects are executed safely, profitably, and to the highest quality standards while driving consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the PM organization. The Director will lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Executives, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Project Engineers. This leader will partner closely with Operations, Estimating, Safety, and Executive Leadership to support strategic growth and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in civil construction, site development, heavy civil, or infrastructure project management.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large PM teams across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience supporting or influencing a large-scale P&L ($100M+; ideally $250M+).
  • Strong understanding of earthwork, utilities, grading, site development, and infrastructure delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to build processes, develop teams, and drive operational discipline.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing project management team across multiple large-scale civil/site development projects.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability for PMs at all levels.
  • Build succession plans and talent pipelines to support continued business unit growth.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development to strengthen project delivery capabilities.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and closeout of all projects within the business unit.
  • Ensure projects meet or exceed performance targets for safety, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Implement standardized PM processes, tools, and reporting to drive consistency across teams.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to ensure seamless coordination between field and office.
  • Support the VP/GM in managing the business unit’s $350M+ P&L through strong cost control, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Review project budgets, schedules, and financial performance to ensure profitability.
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies to protect margins and delivery timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, proposals, and presentations.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and proactively address issues that arise during project execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across project management, scheduling, cost control, and reporting.
  • Implement best practices in project delivery, change management, and risk management.
  • Champion technology adoption and digital tools that enhance project performance.
