About The Position

The job of Director of Professional Development is done for the purpose of assisting with curriculum development and directing professional development programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes districts’ curriculum and instruction needs and staff development requirements for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently address needs.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum aligned with state standards.
  • Oversees district curriculum and textbook adoption process.
  • Oversees and leads the team of curriculum specialists.
  • Oversees and leads the team of teacher mentors.
  • Collaborates with non-district educational institutions and in-state universities for the purpose of leading curriculum development efforts and formulating, developing and conducting professional development activities for the district.
  • Coordinates with other district personnel (e.g. district and building administrators, Consulting teachers, Curriculum and Instruction departments’ staff, etc.) for the purpose of serving as a liaison and resource, identifying training needs and/or coordinating professional development services and within the District.
  • Designs services (e.g. training, programs, materials, in-district workshops, district professional development days and pre-service days, etc.) for the purpose of implementing professional development program activities that address curriculum, instruction, and assessment needs of the District.
  • Directs department operations; the maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes for the purpose of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  • Manages a variety of training programs (e.g. Mentor program, implementation of curriculum adoptions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring training objectives are achieved in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • Monitors budget allocations, use of Title IIA funds, expenditures, and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Participates as a member or facilitator in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, providing training, and conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
  • Prepares a wide variety of often-complex materials (e.g. professional growth philosophy, workshops, long range plans, budgets, funding requests, reports, analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, providing audit reference, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for the requested actions.
  • Researches a variety of topics (e.g. current practices, instructional materials, training consultants, curriculum and instruction trends and strategies, etc.) for the purpose of meeting staff training needs by developing new programs and services.
  • Responds to a wide variety of inquiries of staff, district personnel, other professional organizations, etc. for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
