About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Director of Product Management for the Enterprise API team within Platform Services. This team owns the APIs and frameworks that enable customers, partners, and AI agents to interact with Salesforce data at scale. The Enterprise API portfolio, including REST, SOAP, Bulk APIs, and SOQL, handles billions of requests daily. The Director will own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery for this portfolio, leading a cross-functional team of over 20 engineers. The role involves shaping the future of the portfolio as AI agents become primary API consumers in a headless context, requiring strong communication skills and a developer-centric approach. The Director will work with cross-functional partners to gather, prioritize, and drive the roadmap and long-term direction for the platform products.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience.
  • At least four years owning developer-facing or platform infrastructure API products.
  • Evidence of authoring and defending a portfolio strategy, not just executing a feature roadmap.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of API architectures, protocols, and specifications, including REST and OpenAPI, SOAP, GraphQL, OAuth 2.0, and API versioning patterns.
  • Ability to exercise APIs directly with clients like cURL and Postman, and read and prototype against them.
  • Clear point of view on changes when the caller is an AI agent versus a human developer.
  • Proven track record of using AI tools to build working artifacts (prototypes, proofs of concept, API clients and consumers, automations, workflows).
  • Ability to identify problems and form a point of view before being asked, build artifacts, and drive alignment across engineering and leadership.
  • Ability to make sound calls on high-risk, hard-to-reverse decisions (API contracts, deprecations, breaking changes).
  • Ability to reason through second- and third-order effects before they land.
  • Commercial discipline, including adoption metrics, usage telemetry, cost-to-serve analysis, and competitive awareness.
  • Clear writing skills across requirements documents, strategy papers, executive briefs, and developer content.
  • Ability to engage directly in customer advisory calls and field escalations.
  • Adaptability to different audiences and framing the portfolio's direction and tradeoffs effectively.
  • BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields, or equivalent experience in technical leadership roles.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at Salesforce or a comparable enterprise platform (SAP, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Workday).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Core APIs as a builder, architect, or consultant.
  • Experience with AI agent frameworks, Model Context Protocol, or agentic orchestration patterns, especially access control and authorization for non-human principals.
  • Hands-on experience with API clients and command-line tooling (cURL, command-line interfaces), and ability to read code and build lightweight prototypes against an API.
  • Experience with API management platforms (MuleSoft Anypoint, Postman, Kong, Apigee) or API governance programs (standards bodies, specification authoring, breaking-change detection).
  • Experience leading product teams across multiple time zones, with comfort driving decision velocity asynchronously with engineering counterparts.

Responsibilities

  • Define and defend the long-range plan and vision for the Enterprise API area, considering the evolution with AI agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients.
  • Prioritize and make decisions on what gets included in the roadmap for the next 6 to 12 months, building business cases for leadership approval.
  • Ground the plan in the competitive landscape, identifying opportunities for AI-first or AI-infused approaches to differentiate the portfolio and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Plan and implement the short-term (3 to 6 months) roadmap in collaboration with engineering, architects, and tech writers.
  • Own product direction for large data movement and querying across the platform, including Bulk API evolution, data synchronization, Data Loader modernization, and SOQL query language.
  • Partner with Cloud teams on ingestion patterns and usage analytics.
  • Own the trust posture for the portfolio, including API authentication modernization, legacy feature retirements, API scope evolution, API version retirement, and breaking-change governance.
  • Act as the product lead accountable for responding to API security escalations.
  • Connect with Enterprise API customers at industry events and community gatherings to understand their unmet needs.
  • Serve as a trusted subject-matter expert engaging directly with customers and partners.
  • Deliver the full release go-to-market suite each cycle, including release notes, demos, and enablement content.
  • Act as the main point of contact for feedback and escalations on the technical portfolio from customers, partners, sales, and customer success.
  • Translate customer feedback into evidence, identify patterns, and decide how the signal impacts the roadmap.
