Director of Portfolio Governance and Performance

WSECUOlympia, WA
$137,644 - $206,466Hybrid

About The Position

The Director of Portfolio Governance & Performance (DPGP) represents OWF in both strategy and oversight. This role helps ensure portfolio companies are well governed, meeting performance expectations, and positioned to deliver returns that support continued investment and OWF’s evergreen fund strategy. As one of OWF’s designees on portfolio CUSO boards, the DPGP oversees portfolio-wide performance management systems, leads financial modeling and risk monitoring, and works closely with founders to strengthen governance and operational maturity. The position connects investment committee priorities with the day-to-day realities of early-stage company operations. This role reports to the Chief Partnership Officer (CPO) and works closely with the Director of Fintech Engagement (DFE) to support portfolio companies after investment. While the position does not initially include direct reports, it is expected to develop and manage scalable systems, frameworks, and processes to support a growing portfolio.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in investment management, corporate governance, financial analysis, or a related field — with direct exposure to early-stage companies or fund-level portfolio management
  • Demonstrated experience serving on or supporting boards of directors, including familiarity with fiduciary duties, board dynamics, and governance best practices
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including IRR/MOIC scenario analysis, cap table mechanics, and fund return modeling
  • Experience building and managing performance reporting systems for multi-company portfolios
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — ability to translate complex financial data into clear narratives for board-level audiences
  • Proficiency in financial analysis tools, dashboarding platforms, and Microsoft 365

Nice To Haves

  • Credit union industry experience, including familiarity with CUSO structure, NCUA regulatory frameworks, and core processors (e.g., Symitar, Corelation, DNA).
  • Experience as a board member or observer at multiple early-stage companies simultaneously.
  • Background in impact investing, ESG governance, or stakeholder-driven investment models.
  • Familiarity with CUSO compliance requirements and regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Experience building performance management systems or portfolio dashboards from scratch

Responsibilities

  • Serving as one of OWF's designated board member or observing at portfolio CUSO companies, attending meetings, reviewing materials, and actively participating in governance
  • Establishing and enforcing governance expectations across the portfolio, including board cadence, fiduciary responsibilities, and reporting standards
  • Identifying governance gaps or risks across portfolio companies and escalating concerns to the CPO with clear recommendations
  • Collaborating with legal counsel and the CPO on board observer rights, voting rights, and governance documentation during investment execution
  • Owning the portfolio performance management system — including KPI frameworks, reporting cadence, and dashboard infrastructure — across all 18–20 portfolio companies
  • Conducting regular portfolio reviews, synthesizing company-level data into cohort and fund-level performance narratives for use in Board presentations and LP reporting
  • Tracking financial and operational metrics for each portfolio company, including revenue growth, burn rate, runway, ARR, NRR, and credit union integration depth
  • Producing and maintaining the OWF Portfolio Scorecard — a living document that classifies companies by performance tier (Mature, Growth, Early, Underperforming) and drives resource allocation decisions
  • Leading financial modeling for both prospective investments and existing portfolio companies, including IRR projections, MOIC scenarios, cap table analysis, and dilution modeling
  • Maintaining and updating the OWF fund-level financial model, including committed capital deployment, expected exit timelines, and return scenario planning
  • Supporting investment committee decisions with rigorous financial analysis, scenario modeling, and comparative benchmarking against peer fintech funds
  • Evaluating investment structures (equity, SAFEs, convertible notes) and providing recommendations on pro-rata rights, follow-on allocation, and exiting strategies
  • Maintaining a portfolio-wide risk register that flags regulatory, financial, operational, and strategic risks at the company and fund levels
  • Monitoring portfolio companies for NCUA-relevant compliance exposures, CUSO regulatory requirements, and any issues that could create reputational or legal risk for OWF or WSECU
  • Coordinating with the CPO and OWF's legal resources on compliance-related matters, including CUSO formation requirements, investment agreement adherence, and reporting obligations
  • Tracking covenant compliance, milestone obligations, and any conditions attached to investment agreements across the portfolio
  • Identifying and developing revenue opportunities for OWF beyond capital returns — including advisory fee structures, consulting arrangements, co-investment facilitation, and revenue-sharing models
  • Partnering with the CPO on WSECU LP relationship reporting — translating portfolio performance data into strategic narratives that reinforce OWF's value to its anchor LP
  • Supporting the development of OWF's broader investment thesis by providing data-driven insights on sector trends, portfolio patterns, and fintech market dynamics
