About The Position

Aiwyn is the first complete platform for modern Accounting Firms, backed by top-tier investors. We are a fast-growing scale-up SaaS company building category-defining technology. We are looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to lead the foundation of our platform. This role involves leading five teams and approximately thirty engineers, with a peer product leader. The role has significant product work, focusing on core IP like the ingestion and normalization pipeline and the tax engine, aiming to make them best-in-class. The platform team is crucial for enabling other product teams to ship efficiently, ensuring the reliability and performance of core services, and facilitating smooth customer implementations. The team also focuses on improving company-wide productivity through AI and ensuring transparency in the platform's work.

Requirements

  • Manager of managers experience, ideally for 2+ years.
  • Experience leading multi-team engineering organizations of 20+ people.
  • Experience growing leaders within engineering teams.
  • Operational excellence in operating high-availability services.
  • High standards for table stakes operational practices.
  • Ability to describe team metrics, past issues, and solutions implemented.
  • Experience holding people accountable and managing performance.
  • Experience building teams by setting a high bar and managing people out when necessary.
  • Strong opinions on code, systems, and operating cadences, with the ability to defend them.
  • Ability to disagree and commit.
  • AI-native fluency: daily use of AI tooling, actively pushing team adoption, and a clear point of view on AI's benefits and drawbacks.
  • Strong communication skills: clear writing, ability to hold a room without dominating, and effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to turn 'no' into 'yes, and here's the tradeoff'.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Engineering Managers across infrastructure, foundations, tax engine, implementations, and productivity.
  • Hire and performance manage engineers, building a scalable leadership team.
  • Own the operating model, defining rhythms, metrics, and standards for the organization (cycle planning, change management, design review, incident response, on-call quality).
  • Set technical direction in partnership with engineers and EMs for the evolution of the tax engine, ingestion and normalization pipeline, and core infrastructure on GCP.
  • Hold the bar on operational excellence, aiming for daily deploys and driving incident response towards root cause analysis.
  • Build metrics and forums to make execution legible and drive productive conversations.
  • Partner with peer product leaders, product engineering, support, and GTM teams to earn trust and improve their effectiveness.
  • Coach and develop EMs, hire when the bar requires it, and performance manage when it doesn't.
