About The Position

The Director of Philanthropy is a senior Development leader responsible for growing and managing the organization's individual giving program, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, donor stewardship, and tax credit giving initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director develops and executes strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, including those giving through Donor-Advised Funds and family foundations. This hands-on role combines strategic leadership with frontline fundraising, including donor relationship management, proposal and communication writing, and stewardship activities. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, relationship builder, and project manager with the ability to drive long-term fundraising growth while successfully executing day-to-day fundraising efforts to achieve ambitious revenue goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 to 8+ years of progressive fundraising experience with demonstrated success in individual giving, annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Proven ability to develop fundraising strategies and successfully execute fundraising initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating proposals, donor communications, and stewardship materials.
  • Strong relationship-building, organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Experience with donor databases, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and work effectively with donors, volunteers, and organizational leadership.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
  • Must possess Act 33/34 and FBI clearances, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow individual philanthropy, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, leadership giving, donor stewardship, and tax credit giving programs.
  • Lead multi-channel fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, email appeals, Giving Tuesday, and year-end giving initiatives, while monitoring performance and optimizing results.
  • Manage and expand the Nazareth Fund leadership giving society through targeted cultivation, recognition, stewardship, and donor engagement strategies.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects; prepare proposals, donor strategies, and stewardship plans in partnership with organizational leadership.
  • Increase participation in the organization's EITC/tax credit giving program through donor outreach, education, relationship management, and targeted marketing efforts.
  • Grow the planned giving program by promoting legacy giving opportunities and educating donors on charitable gift vehicles.
  • Develop comprehensive donor stewardship and communications strategies that strengthen relationships, increase retention, and demonstrate philanthropic impact.
  • Serve as a primary writer for fundraising communications, including proposals, appeals, donor reports, presentations, and stewardship materials.
  • Collaborate across development, marketing, communications, and organizational leadership teams to maximize fundraising success, support planning and budgeting, and represent the organization with donors and community partners.
