About The Position

The Illinois Director of Pharmacy serves as a key clinical leader responsible for overseeing pharmacy strategy, medication management programs, and formulary optimization to improve patient outcomes and ensure cost-effective care delivery. This role provides oversight for drug utilization review, medication safety programs, and pharmacy-related compliance initiatives. The Illinois Director of Pharmacy collaborates closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, care teams, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and healthcare partners to promote safe and effective medication therapy aligned with evidence-based clinical guidelines. The Illinois Director of Pharmacy supports population health initiatives by implementing pharmacy strategies that improve medication adherence, reduce adverse drug events, and optimize therapeutic outcomes for members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
  • Active Pharmacist license in the State of Illinois required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical pharmacy leadership role
  • Experience supporting medication therapy management programs
  • Experience working with Illinois Medicare, Medicaid, and healthcare regulatory agencies
  • Strong knowledge of clinical information systems including electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Experience supporting risk management and medication safety protocols
  • Strong analytical skills supporting medication utilization review and cost management
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills

  • Knowledge of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) operations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership oversight for pharmacy services supporting value-based care initiatives
  • Oversee drug utilization review processes ensuring appropriate medication use
  • Develop and maintain formulary management strategies aligned with clinical guidelines
  • Collaborate with providers to promote safe and effective medication therapy management
  • Evaluate medication utilization trends supporting improved clinical outcomes

  • Develop pharmacy-related policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards
  • Support implementation of medication safety initiatives reducing risk of adverse events
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams supporting coordinated patient care
  • Provide strategic recommendations supporting clinical and financial performance goals
  • Monitor pharmacy program performance metrics aligned with quality measures
  • Support clinical teams in addressing complex medication therapy cases
