About The Position

This position is ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES. The vacancy is open to current permanent Parks employees serving in the Administrative Community Relations Specialist civil service title or on leave from the title, or permanent Parks employees in or on leave from a comparable title (e.g. Administrative Staff Analyst, Administrative Park & Recreation Manager, or Administrative Manager), or Parks employees who are reachable on the Administrative Community Relations Specialist civil service list or a comparable civil service list or qualify for a comparable title. The Director of Parks Inspection Program will oversee the Parks Inspection Program (PIP) and other inspections, manage a team of inspectors and analysts, present findings to leadership, and collaborate with other divisions to improve data utilization. The role requires ensuring proper training and support for the inspection team, managing quality assurance, and representing PIP internally and externally. Additionally, the Director will provide guidance to Maintenance and Operations, manage GIS updates for inspection properties, respond to legal requests, ensure fleet compliance, and perform special projects.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, full-time community liaison, community organization or community relations experience, at least two years of which must have been in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity with responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, developing, evaluating and/or administering a large community service program or activity.
  • OR a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and eight years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described above, at least two years of which must have been in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.
  • OR education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • Undergraduate education above the high school level may be substituted for the community liaison, community organization or community relations experience, but not for the two years of broad administrative or policy-making experience, at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for each year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years.
  • Graduate education beyond the baccalaureate degree may be substituted for the community liaison, community organization or community relations experience, but not for the two years of broad administrative or policy-making experience, on the basis of 30 graduate credits from an accredited college or university for each year of experience, up to a maximum of 2 years.
  • All candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of full-time experience in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Parks Inspection Program (PIP) and other inspections, reporting to the Chief for Inspection and Audit.
  • Ensure the PIP team of 10 full-time Inspectors receive proper training, support, monitoring, and feedback.
  • Manage the PIP Analytic team, providing guidance and technical support for quality assurance and improving tools, reports, and presentations.
  • Present ratings results to Chiefs and Commissioners at the Monthly Operations Meeting and other high-level settings.
  • Collaborate with other divisions to enhance the usefulness and availability of PIP data and reports across the Agency in desktop and mobile environments.
  • Represent PIP by conducting training and presentations internally and for outside agencies.
  • Provide guidance to Maintenance and Operations, addressing concerns and conducting field visits.
  • Ensure new inspection sub-properties are created in GIS and added for inspection on a timely basis.
  • Respond to requests from Legal regarding inspection records.
  • Ensure compliance with Fleet procedures, including routine maintenance and follow-up on violations.
  • Perform special projects as required.

Benefits

  • Processing fee between $40.00 to $101.00 based on the salary range of title.
  • Background check fee of $104.50 for candidates not currently employed by the City.
