About The Position

Miami University, a highly-ranked national public university, is seeking a Director of Organizational Communications to join its Communications and Marketing department. This role will be responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing communications plans to support departments, including the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM). The goal is to establish organizational messages, keep the campus community informed, and foster a positive workplace culture. This position offers a hybrid remote work arrangement, with three days on campus and two days remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, marketing, and/or communications, including leadership or supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to communicate complex and strategic ideas clearly and effectively to varied audiences, teams, institutional leaders, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to oversee complex, high-impact initiatives, set strategic priorities, and manage multiple projects across teams or divisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to mentor staff, build high-performing teams, and foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to align stakeholders around shared goals and institutional priorities.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to make sound decisions and implement solutions that drive results.
  • Ability to develop creative approaches to produce clear, compelling, motivating communications and campaigns that achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience determining appropriate message content for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement integrated, comprehensive communication and marketing strategies for internal stakeholders, aligning with Miami University’s values, mission, and brand standards.
  • Develop marketing and communications plans in collaboration with UCM and OHRM leaders to support internal communications, employee recruitment, and brand goals.
  • Create and execute marketing and communications plans to engage, inform, and inspire employees about their contributions to the organization's growth through various channels like media relations, web, social media, print, and leadership communication.
  • Serve as the lead writer, editor, and publisher for all OHRM communications materials, including e-newsletters, magazines, website content, brochures, and handbooks.
  • Oversee the OHRM’s web presence and collaborate with web team members on university strategies and departmental requests.
  • Manage vendors and freelancers for OHRM's marketing and communications needs (e.g., video, graphic design, PR).
  • Develop digital marketing strategies to support the university's employer brand.
  • Ensure adherence to communication industry best practices and monitor campus communication for internal/external response and legal concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the university to advance university-wide communication strategies.
  • Represent OHRM in meetings of university-wide communicators.
  • Partner with university-wide colleagues on special projects.
  • Act as a liaison between University Communications and Marketing and OHRM, developing and assessing measurable goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
