About The Position

The Director of Operations is responsible for assisting in the development of the Operation Excellence Program with the Corporate PWS Leader and its execution at the Plant level. This position will provide supervision, support, coaching, training, and development of the Plant Operating team to enable the execution of the program within the Plant. The role will be responsible for monitoring day-to-day execution of Plant performance, including unplanned losses during operations through work systems, and driving improvements in overall losses, which include Safety, Quality, and Productivity. Direct reports to this role include the Plant Operations Sanitation team. The scope of the role includes promoting company culture, values, and principles, as well as participating in company functions. It ensures that all operations comply with current Good Manufacturing Procedures, reviews Standard Operating Procedure changes for all plant operations, and monitors training and enforcement to ensure SOPs are followed. The role drives continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, and Productivity related losses utilizing problem-solving tools/methodologies along with operational expertise. It monitors key performance indicators in accordance with the Operations Excellence/Work System Practices and encourages close teamwork between all functions (Engineering, Safety, Asset Reliability, Quality Organization, etc.) to close gaps. It develops individual training and development plans for direct and indirect team reports that maximize team resources. It performs Root Cause Failure analysis for losses based on economic evaluation. It utilizes critical thinking: using logic, reasoning, and calculations to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to solve problems at hand. It is responsible for recruiting, hiring, performance evaluation, attendance/payroll, succession planning, and recognition programs to attract and retain talent. It drives conformance to Work System processes with plant personnel through partnership and education. It ensures the implementation of all repairs/modifications resulting from gap assessments, plant audits, notifications, and loss improvement activities. It participates in capacity or budget planning, gathers and evaluates information, and makes and presents recommendations to the plant manager or other management staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • FDA Experience.
  • Union experience.
  • Continuous Improvement Knowledge (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, TPM, RCA).
  • Knowledge of cGMPs.
  • Experience supervising in pharmaceutical/nutritional operations.
  • Sound judgment and good decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, including well-developed communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good planning, analytical skills.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing, packaging and/or warehousing processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong listening skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to provide work direction across multiple production areas and shifts.
  • Ability to manage in high pressure environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, CMMS, BI).

Nice To Haves

  • Infant formula experience is ideal.
  • Firsthand experience in managing infant nutritional manufacturing operations or management experience managing processing spray drying facilities.
