About The Position

The Director of Operations oversees and manages the daily and strategic operations of multiple clinic sites, departments, or service lines within a physician group or hospital setting. This role is accountable for achieving high-quality staff performance, operational excellence, and clinical outcomes across all areas of responsibility. The Director directs financial and budget operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and develops and implements policies and procedures in accordance with applicable standards including The Joint Commission (TJC/JCAHO) and OSHA. In collaboration with executives, physicians, department directors, and cross-functional teams, the Director drives performance improvement initiatives and influences relationships at all levels of the organization to deliver best-in-practice results. The Director manages all aspects of workforce performance including staffing, hiring, employee development, and accountability. This role serves as a key strategic partner to senior leadership, providing financial and operational analyses, facilitating physician communication, and ensuring alignment between organizational goals and day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, management, health administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a physician group practice, multi-site group management or hospital/health system environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-department or multi-site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable regulatory standards including TJC/JCAHO, OSHA and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the daily and strategic operations across multiple clinic sites, departments, or service lines within a physician group or hospital setting.
  • Develops and implements strategic goals and objectives to maintain high-quality patient care services.
  • Accountable for quality and service outcomes to achieve high-quality staff, operational, and clinical/departmental performance.
  • Collaborates with physicians, executives, unit/department directors, and cross-functional leaders to achieve best-in-practice performance and business results.
  • Uses reengineering and workflow analyses to develop techniques and practices that improve the provision of healthcare services.
  • In conjunction with clinical leaders, develops and implements state-of-the-art care management approaches including nursing triage, urgent care, case management, and disease management strategies.
  • Manages the provision of ancillary services (laboratory, pharmacy, radiology) provided in-house or by vendors.
  • Directs revenue, costs, funding, and budget operations for large and complex departments or service areas.
  • Works with senior leadership to determine capital equipment, medical supplies, personnel, and other fiscal requirements.
  • Prepares budget recommendations; monitors and verifies expenditures to ensure departments operate within budget.
  • Prepares financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress and trends; makes recommendations and provides conclusions.
  • Maintains oversight of medical records, processes, and retrieval and analysis of medical information.
  • Determines staffing needs across clinical, clerical, and administrative roles; interviews and hires qualified staff.
  • Manages staff and employee performance, providing ongoing feedback, addressing problems, and verifying competency.
  • Orients and trains employees; identifies and supports opportunities for skills development.
  • Determines disciplinary, termination, and salary actions in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Develops and implements organizational policies and procedures related to human resources.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC/JCAHO), OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with billing and reimbursement guidelines, medical records standards, and human resource regulations.
  • Monitors and responds to changes in regulatory requirements to maintain ongoing compliance across all departments or sites.
  • Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical teams to integrate compliance requirements into daily operations.
  • Manages and influences relationships with executive leaders, physicians, department directors, and staff to drive best-in-practice outcomes.
  • Facilitates communication with physicians and operational teams; provides updates on activities, new policies, and emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborates with managed care, revenue cycle, patient access, and patient care services departments as applicable.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Works with leadership to formulate and pursue a plan for ongoing professional development.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned.
  • Travel between Emory operating units and affiliated sites.
